As the fighting in the streets became increasingly severe, it became apparent to the young Magistrate that it was time. Acting quickly, Joanna organized the evacuation of Taverley, and ensured that as many civilians were relocated from the battlefield as she could manage. With many of her people, Joanna took shelter in one of the refuges she had ordered built before. It had been a long battle, but soon the fighting was over and it was clear that the Republic had been victorious.
However, looking around, there was much to be done to make reparations to the town, her town. The community had been shaken by the violence, the blood shed on this sacred land. And so was the Lady Lavelle. Her head downcast, she steps along the cobblestone towards her offices, where she drafts a public announcement.
Unto the people of Taverley of Burthorpe, the grand Republic of Burthorpe,
Today has seen the swift and decisive demise of the monarchists' rebellion in Taverley. After grueling warfare, the Vanguard of Burthorpe has been successful in ousting those who would threaten our independence; however, I cannot deny that it has been at a great cost.
Many have been devastated, and this tragedy, this sacrilege by dark forces, shall never be forgotten by the people who have been wronged. It is why I may no longer uphold the duties of my office, as it would merely add further injury to a sacred people, a sacred land. Today, I have asked for the forgiveness of my country, and of the people of Taverley. I have asked for forgiveness from the Gods.
I have prayed for the safekeeping of Taverley, and the pure people of Asgarnia, in these dark days, for now I understand that it is no longer in my hands. Today, I shall resign the magistracy, and abdicate the duties of my office so that I may be replaced by one who may, with a purely Asgarnian heart, protect and serve this enduring land unto a new age and beyond.
Forevermore, among you,
Lady Joanna Lavelle
