The means in which this community was able to thrive in the past was through a mutual trust and respect for one another to engage in meaningful, fun RolePlay together without the interference of out of character emotions and actions.

I am not an active member of this community anymore, but I still care for it and would love to see it thrive again, but from the outside looking in and indeed from the perspective of a 'new comer' Everybody here makes this place look very intimidating. People come and go because they feel unwelcome and that is solely down to the bitter, toxic behavior I see and hear about weekly. You have all become so hostile toward individuals or groups of fellow roleplayers that you have created this nasty environment of 'cliques' and are very defensive of them, causing you to shun and proclaim "who the hell are you?" in the face of newbies who would like to join in.

"Mutual trust and respect for one another."

Creating alternate accounts to deceive members of this community is unethical and wrong regardless of how strongly you believe it negates metagame. You're forcing yourself in to the mindset that your peers cannot be trusted so you must undermine them. At that point you're not even playing for fun you're just trying to +1 eachother for the bragging rights and it has nothing to do with RolePlay or the plot. When you are found out to have broken that trust barrier, the consequences are threads like these and a vicious cycle of tasteless jokes and digs fired back and forth.

Unfortunately, this kind of behavior has been going on for so many years now I don't think many of you are capable of trusting one another anymore to just roleplay and have a good time.

Stop hating eachother, stop deceiving eachother, stop assuming because - 'oh it's that clique trying to roleplay with us' - that they're doing it to undermine or +1 you and quite frankly get down off your high horses because reading this thread you all have as much problems as the next guy.

@Syvian Musta been well before my time, by the sound of it... Perhaps in the W31 days everyone talks about.

@Eden the "wouldn't it be great if everyone was nice to each other" argument is frankly getting old.

As ever it is used in a way that is insanely one sided and ultimately rediculous because one glance at this thread will confirm that we are not talking about people that are prepared to be reasonable.

P.S. Given how much you contributed to the demise of W42, please take your advise for fixing it elsewhere.

I want to put a full end to this little debate and make some points I picked up from my old friends Harry and Eden, plus the thoughts of many other community members I have spoken about this occurrence.

Long before our community took quite a hit in the amount of people actively roleplaying, there was a thing we had to prevent others from interacting with one another. These almost infamous and easy to install methods of rendering someone’s actions null and void were dubbed as the Blacklists. So dark, that not even Jagex themselves wanted to make their forums dirty with them. So why did we use these?

When someone constantly metagamed during plots, when that dude constantly tried to autohit you during combat, when someone always showed up to your roleplay trolling it or for when he claims to have a Mahjarrat army serving him, the blacklists were there for you. Simply put, you were put on a list by an individual or group and from there on out you were deemed non-existent in their characters’ story.

But it didn’t stop there. Sometimes blacklists were installed due to things less related to the in-character actions to the actions of those out of character. Again, certain reasons were brought up for the ignoring of a certain individual or group. I don’t want to go about naming all the moral and ethical clashing people that roleplayed on the server have gone through over the years. It’s quite obvious to even those outside of the community that this has happened and I’d like to keep it to that.

Nonetheless, ignoring others due them not contributing to the fun experience you have in mind for your character, group, kingdom etc. has been quite the common phenomenon in W42 and it’s hard to make a case for it not to be allowed given proper reasoning and all that. If someone is simply too much of a metagamer, too toxic in your chats or someone who did something bad to you in the past, ignoring is probably you best solution to the problem when you are past exchanging reasonable words with one another.

Catfish.
To lure (someone) into a (romantic)relationship by means of a fictional online persona.

The people that believed into the persona of Arenahide and thus Jacob Delvar, have been catfished.

I want to give out a strong signal to everyone using Runescape as a roleplaying platform. To make a case against catfishing and the use of alt-accounts out of ethical and moral objection against this deceiving and distrust promoting method of interacting with others on the server from being just deemed as acceptable. Harry, Eden and I are but a few who actually post our thoughts of this scheme of Pyro being wrong, hurtfull to the community as is and enethical.

I wish for that signal to be included in both sticky threads. I just want to put on a bit of information, advice or tips regarding the use of alt-accounts. Here’s the bit I am prepared to upload on this section of the sticky I currently hold.

CrocoNuts said :
• Alternate accounts
Though harmless when used to portray a multitude of characters at a given time, the creation of a fake online persona behind an alt-account is heavily frowned upon.
Your actions may be ignored due to this being deemed unethical.

I wish for it to serve as an assurance that from that moment on catfishing can be held accountable for and be punished on the same level as trolling, metagaming, toxic behaviour and so on. I’m putting this all out here because it feels right for me to inform potential newcomers about, sheer as the numbers may be. It’s also a signal to saying no to catfishing and that it is not the solution to your troubles however big and personal they may be.

The bit I made up is open for a change of wording but I’d like the message to remain the same. I’d like people to comment on my idea and as it stands now, it will be included in the sticky I hold by the end of this week should there not be enough reason for it to be not included. Thanks.

Nicely written.

OOC deceit is absolutely abhorrent. We're here to make stories, not tell lies for the sake of experiments and power. Be honest with your peers. If you think you need to use a different identity to interact and be accepted by others, that alone says plenty about the sort of person you've made of yourself.
