It would not be long after the precautions taken by Sarimia that the Kharidian Divan and their Pharaoh-Caliph may receive an envelope bearing the seal of the Grand Duke of Sarimia and his family. Upon opened, it read:
"To His Holiness, Tumuh, Pharaoh of the Menaphites, and Caliph of the Kharidians,
And his magnificent Divan,
It has come to my attention that my government has neglected to send yours an official greeting, though I am sure you can understand that we have been quite busy establishing ourselves. In fact, only recently, we have made agreements with your ally, the Kingdom of Camelot, and their former king, Tommen, that permitted your vessels to use the port of Sarim as a middle-point between your two countries, as I am sure you are aware, Your Holiness.
It has now come to my attention that our mutual friend has abdicated his throne in favor of his vassal, the Duke of Catherby, Xel Praven. While I do not distrust the new king, as he seemed rather pleasant when we met at my wedding, I have become wary now that he wields such powers. His representative, a militant named Jekyll Vortivask, came to me and demanded that I pledge tribute of our own resources to them as a cost of their protection, and my own loyalty, as if I were his own vassal, to his king. I declined, and dismissed him from my court, but knowing this man, and acknowledging the intent for hostility in his departure, I am sure that the new king and his henchman do not act in the interest of peace as our mutual friend, his predecessor, did.
It is my hope that you share the opinion that a coalition of our two countries needs to be formed so that this new king can not bully and harass us into unwanted agreements in his own favor, and by our persistence that he may return to more agreeable and diplomatic policy. This is why I ask that I, and my entourage, be allowed to visit Your Holiness, so that we may establish formal ties and solve this matter with King Xel Praven of Camelot."
Hi, I'm Dan.
