~ Rellekka's Relationship Issues ~
There's no doubt about it when I say that Rellekka has been one of the most fiercely fought over territories in recent times. Passing from owner to owner, both Fremennik and outerlander, numerous controversies have been aroused by Rellekkan affairs. Former editor Stuart Lethbridge-Gordon printed an editorial decrying the then Prince Vectis of Kandarin's support of perceived genocidal campaigns against the Fremennik by the Rovin controlled Northern Seas Empire. And yet despite the public condemnation of this frequent practice, the Fremennik have still had to fight tooth and claw to defend their independence.
It was the Fremennik Jarl Domovoi Shieldbreaker who ended the Rovin hegemony in the North, and his successful campaigns are long spoken of in Fremennik ballads. Yet the strong-handed techniques of the Polemistis Host, the niche of Fremennik society to which Jarl Domovoi belongs, is equally as controversial. Seen with distaste by other Fremennik, they are unpopular with the more peaceful houses and hosts. Jarl Haakon Steeltongue, the current Jarl of Rellekka, is a "graduate" of this Host, and can be noted to use some of their particularly aggressive combat tactics combined with a new wave of "housecarl" tactics which he is trying to introduce.
How this is relevant to the present day is to a similar occupation. Outerlander men have taken the Isles to the north of Rellekka. Those occupants use runic magic, perceived to be a horrific heresy against the Fremennik belief system. This corruption of Fremennik common culture and religious belief is a frequent offence that has been made against the Fremennik people. How far will each side go to stop the other?
