These prints are not made from any living creature, or any creature now extinct but recorded in history. They were made pre-history. So what made them?
Dinosaurs .... or some Ardipithecus ramidus pranksters clowning around and making fake giant footprints in between bouts of gathering their food?
There's a cave complex in France - Les Grottes Pétrifiantes, Savonnières - which leaves objects and moulds under the dripping water for 6 - 24 months and they turn into limestone covered items which are then sold in their gift shop.
I actually have a rather attractive bas relief plate on my windowsill from there, made in this manner.
