I got totally annoyed with a driver yesterday. Speed limit is 55 mph, but on a stretch of the highway goes through an area with very few businesses. The cops will let you creep up to 60 mph as long as you're not being a road hog about it and behaving yourself. However, lately, drivers were creeping up to 65 and 70 mph. Suddenly, there were traffic cops everywhere, except for yesterday.

Traffic was going along at the posted speed limit, I was in the middle lane. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this car coming at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. He came up beside me, tried to get in front of me, cutting me off so bad I had to slam brakes. I glanced in my mirror to make sure the car behind me was slowing down. He went into the outside lane, passed a few cars, then squeeezed back into the middle lane to the inside lane. The land was flat and I could see tail lights going on for quite a ways.

Where's a traffic cop when you need one?

I'm almost - almost - impervious to the antics of other road users these days.

I grew a thick skin early as I commuted on a motorbike in central London for 13 years .... obviously I was wearing a Cloak of Invisibility the entire time because no one ever saw me coming and pulled out of side turnings etc. as if I simply wasn't there.

For the last 15 years I've been driving a very small and humble car and it's so déjà vu. The road behind me can be completely devoid of traffic but people still pull out in front of me with so little room to spare I'm forever slamming my brakes on. I also get tailgated pretty much every day .... that's my favourite - the bullies in their big motors trying to scare me into breaking the speed limit.

Strangely, when a passenger or driving in the Ole Man's car (which is much bigger and more imposing) these things very, very rarely happen.

I think you may be right.

As I posted in my previous comment I get tailgated all the time, and other bad behaviours and my car is an old Nissan Micra, so very small and unassuming and a bit sad looking now. Especially the back seat which darling dog the destroyer has eviscerated, leaving me a hole with some springs.

On reflection it doesn`t happen quite so often in my husband`s car which similar to yours is much bigger and newer than mine.

I get annoyed at the drivers who in a 50 mph limit drive at 40 then when they reach a 30 mph limit still drive at 40. Is their accelerator pedal stuck? Then there are the ones who brake every time a vehicle comes in the opposite direction even when there's plenty of room.

AAARRGGHH!!! Scam phone calls!
We have registered with the telephone preferance service to reduce unsolicited calls but that doesn't stop scammers. I just had one about washing machine insurance. They tell you that their "records" show that your washing machine is out of warranty and they want to get you to insure your machine against breakdowns. Yeah, riiiight. I sometimes ask, OK what brand is my washing machine? Of course they don't know because they are not insurers they're scammers! We must have had that particular scam call some 10 or 12 times in recent months and I'm sick and tired of it. I tell them to go away but one of these days I'm going to tell them to go away in less polite language! :@

Oh yesssss! High on the list of Annoying Things.

We're also on the preference service but some still slip through. Also, strangely, on my Pay-as-you-Go mobile for which very few people have the number and which I don't ever use except in dire straits.

My latest is that I've recently been involved in a car accident that wasn't my fault. My memory must be very poor as I don't recall it - but their "records show" so it must surely be right.

Oddly, their records don't show when this occurred, or where, or what car I was in, or who my Insurer is or what my name is ...... pretty spooky, huh?

Another frequent scam call... a computerised voice telling us there is suspicious activity on our internet connection and we're going to be cut off in 24 hours. Press 1 to resolve this issue.. I never even let it get to that part now, the phone gets put down.

edit to add: I don't trust the number that shows on our caller display because I know they spoof them. My poor brother got abusive phone calls to his landline because it had been spoofed and used for nuisance calls. The people abusing him wouldn't believe he wasn't behind the calls. He had to change his number which he'd had for a couple of decades.
