Thanks for the responses; she's a phenomenal artist (tattoos, paintings, even has her own folk band)

I feel like she would love that kind of "challenge" per say, haha.

and Tuffty, only problem there is that I'd be going in with zero idea of how I want/expect it to look; would just be describing an emotion I've been feeling the last year or so and asking her to draw up an interpretation of it.

Different question:

Am I the only one who feels that linework hurts way more than shading?

Friends of mine who have tattoos everywhere always told me that the shading hurt the most, but when I got my last tattoo done, the linework by far hurt more than the shading.

There was so much linework to be done, with such a precise needle, that at some points it was hard to sit still (although I did obviously), then, after the linework, when she went in with the shading, it felt like a cat lightly scratching my skin, or like somebody was giving me a massage.

I think line work is done with 3 to 5 needles and it does hurt as it's fresh skin.

The shading is upto 15 needles and because the line work was done you sort of don't feel the shading or colouring as the line work hurt and made the skin numb-ish.

After about 5 mins I don't feel anything as my mind is telling me it's not hurting lol.

1 thing though I can't watch the needles going in. I've had 9 tattoos done now and not seen 1 needel at work. Not my thing.

I'm the same way normally with needles (no way can I watch a butterfly needle going into the under of my elbow for bloodwork), but surprisingly, I enjoy watching the tattoo get done.

From my few tats, I can never really see the needle anyway; it's more of the big "gun" the artist has and the hand. Never get a view of the needle itself.

But in my tat I was talking about, there are some VERY intricate linework that was done, some that still blows my mind how precise it looks, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was only 1-3 needle tips in those points. That hurt like hell, but was worth it, haha.

I'll never find out how painful that is as all mine are here to stay.

Well 1 more to go over as its 35 years old and in the way of a bigger better tattoo. So it must be covered over.

Also it takes me on average 2 years to get the design just the way I want and then get it. After all I have them for life. :P
