Should auditing be banned?

Auditing is basically when a civilian films public and private property / employees / people.

Often times, this is done to see if the "right to film in public" is respected and if it is not, to further "educate" people on this. It is also done to see if people conduct and compose themselves properly and only act within "strict limits of the law". Public officials are particularly targeted when audits are carried out. An example is here (only need to watch up to 3:00 to understand how one might be conducted and end up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L1cR9sez2w).

What are your opinions on the practice of auditing? Should it be allowed or banned? I know that in some countries, certain measures such as community protection notices are being used to "manage" this activity.

I'm in agreement @Stoat. With rights and freedoms does come great responsibility imo ;)

If this was tolerated too much, it could easily pave the way for more problematic incidents to occur taking advantage of what auditors do.

@Megycal - yeah I know, that's what a lot of people think. An audit in a general sense is just checking what someone else is doing I think. In the context of filming though, I guess what is meant is auditing/documenting other people's activity in a public place and making sure it remains within the law I spose...

You believe that public photography shouldn't be "tolerated too much"?
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

I was swinging my son on a swing at a park many years ago and this dude/stranger came and photographed us without permission. I hated it. It shouldn't be allowed.

On the other hand some videos can change events - without the video you can't prove the truth.
If fat means flavour then I'm ******* delicious!

No one in their right mind should ever expect any amount of privacy while they're out in public. People should stay at home if they want privacy. Put a swing in your backyard, and build a fence.

If you're in public, don't expect others to provide you with privacy.

That's kind of the whole point of most of these audits; to teach people about public photography, the operative word being "public".

If you're public, you cannot expect any privacy.
You cannot trespass someone's eyes in public.

It's a weird sentiment that some people have... that it should somehow be illegal to look at them in public...
