Every time I consume any drink with any amount of alcohol I get a painful headache that lasts for days. The headache also ruins my sleep and if I wake up because of a alcohol headache, I can't fall back asleep. So alcohol is something I have to avoid. Plus I hate the bitter taste of alcohol. I don't mind the smell of alcohol though, and don't mind if people I'm with drink it.

Anyone else a teetotaler? You or someone you know?

I didn't like the taste of the few alcoholic beverages I have had and therefore I don't drink.
I don't identify myself as anything in that regard, I just choose not to drink alcohol the same way I choose not to eat whatever foods I don't like.

I'm not a teetotaller per se - I like the occasional Scotch - but I generally don't feel any need to drink alcohol, even in social settings, so I don't.

I don't drink alcohol. For one, my family has a history of alcoholism and two, every alcoholic drink I have tried tastes invariably foul. For the second reason I can't understand why anyone in history drank alcohol beyond the first sip.

Different people perceive certain tastes of various items differently. The reasons are varied.

One major reason is to do with DNA, another to do with certain hormones that may or may not yet have developed. If you taste something that disagrees with your palette at a certain age where your adult hormones have not yet developed it can be the case that the disagreeable taste of certain things have created a lifelong prejudice. Some naturally come out of that prejudice as the hormones eventually develop, for others, even though the hormones have developed, the prejudice remains.

I was a heavy drinker in my young adulthood. I didn't drink very much when alone, but when I was in a group I drank more than my share. But when I started drinking before going to work, I thought I was and alcoholic. To check that out, I stopped drinking. Didn't drink for a little over 6 months. No withdrawals, no desires I couldn't handle. When I got with a group I drank Cokes or would order a Virgin Mary. I noticed that while in a group, I was very quiet, shy, almost afraid to join a conversation for fear I'd be ridiculed for some unknown reason.

I came to the conclusion that my drinking problem wasn't alcohol related, I was too much an introvert. I met someone, who became my closest friend, helped me out of that dark hole. He took me to some of his social meetings, encouraged me to talk to strangers, say, "Hi" or "Good morning/afternoon/evening" to a passerby on the street. Soon, I was talking to people standing next to me in a long line.

Thanks to my friend, I'm no longer an introvert and don't need the alcohol to loosen up. I can make a beer last a couple hours. Someone poured me a pint and that lasted all evening. I rarely drink cocktails, any more.

I have an alcohlic drink now and again. Some weeks I'll have a couple, other weeks none at all. Drinks do vary a
lot
in flavour. I can't stand beer, I think it has a horrible taste, some types are actually called bitter. It might be due to the hops used in brewing it. I don't like neat spirits such as gin, vodka and whisky although some are nice with mixers. I enjoy a small glass of sherry, port or madeira but not if they are dry or over sweet. My preferred wine is white Zinfadel or maybe a Malbec. I realise all the drinks I like mean I don't like anything too strong

I've been purposefully avoiding alcohol all my life. I dislike the stuff, not for the taste, but the influence it has on the mind and body. If people want to consume it, that's fine.

In Britain, especially in Scotland, you do constantly get people trying to peer-pressure you into drinking alcoholic beverages. The British relationship with alcohol is literally toxic.
