I'm British and I can't remember ever being pressured into having alcohol. I've been offered drinks but if I say no thank you my decision is accepted. Maybe its an age thing, I'm old. :P
Edit to add: I don't remember being pressured even when I was young.

I don't avoid or seek out alcohol-based beverages really, but if there are some around that I know I like, I might have a drink or two. I used to stick to beer, but that's faded away in the past few years. These days I prefer things like red wine (dry ones only), bourbon lemonade, or a Moscow mule cocktail. I've never been able to enjoy scotch on the rocks or something like that; way too strong for me!

I'm close to one, just not completely. I may have a few drinks a year, some years no alcohol. This year possibly half a dozen drinks so far; so not doing to bad socially this year.

Some alcohol I can't stand the taste of, others slide down quite nicely. Beer can't stand the smell of it or the taste of it.
If fat means flavour then I'm ******* delicious!

I've been teetotal for over 20 years now and honestly, giving it up was way easier than I thought it would be. I just decided one day I was drinking a bit too much and thought I'd take a break... but never started again.

In all that time I've never once craved a drink.

Last week, I bought an 18 can case of beer. That will last me 6+ months. My housemate who is a recovering alcoholic with 3 years sobriety (I checked with him before buying alcoholic beverages) asked me why I want to get drunk. I told him I'm not getting drunk, this will last me at least 6 months. He said, "No one drinks because they like the taste of it. They drink to get drunk." I told him, "I'm here to prove you wrong."

He doesn't know about the fifth of rum that's half gone. Someone left it here New Years and a half pint of Southern Comfort a previous housemate left when he moved out 3 months ago. Because he used to drink hard liquor, I keep that well hidden.

Yes, I'm well loaded down with alcohol, right now. With that and a few occasional beers, it'll probably last me a good 2 years.

Does open bottles of booze go bad?

"Does open bottles of booze go bad?"

It probably depends on the alcohol content. Beer and wine would definitely go off.

edit to add: we have a gadget that means we can keep opened bottles of wine for over a week. You use a special rubber "cork" which has a sort of valve in it. Put that in the bottle instead of the old cork or screw cap then use the pump to get as much air out of the bottle as possible. To release the seal you just squeeze the top of the "cork".
2nd edit: We had half the bottle of a nice red wine earlier this week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had another glass with our lunch today and there's still some left for another day.

Happy (x number) Anniversary. Hope there are lots more to come.

Thank you. It was our 41st. :D
We're still hoping we can go on the long delayed cruise we'd booked to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary ( ruby ) last year. We changed the booking to September this year but we're still not sure if we should change it again to next spring.
