3 is indeed fun, but if you're using an older computer you might have to play it in windowed mode and turn down some of the graphics settings
maybe even use just 1 or 2 save in your sims 3 file at a time while playing, just tips to reduce lag/crashing.
Also there are 4 files with cache at the end in your sims 3 folder, so deleting them all regularly (they should be called CASPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, ScriptCache.package and SimCompositorCache.package) can help reduce lag/crashes as well, after deleting them (best done while sims 3 isn't running) they come back when you play anyway, might take a bit lot longer to load when you are loading sims 3 up after deleting them but nothing to worry about
