Okay - I'm a parent - I did childcare for years - and I LOVE spicy foods and did as a kid.

So for myself - my dad gave us taco bell sauce packets as kids and tobasco sauce. He encouraged us to try the sauce. I was the only one who liked it at all. He never forced us to eat it.

If it was spicy - I wanted to try it. I love spicy bbq sauces - spicy buffalo chicken - some jalapeno stuff - and stuffed jalapenos. For me- it's all about the flavor balance.

Also many people make the mistake of 'trying the smallest pepper' thinking it won't be so bad. The smaller ones are hotter than larger ones.

I offer kids the chance to try stuff and warn them it's spicy and have milk ready. With one kid, I put hotsauce on a spoon - a tiny dot and put his ice cream on top - well, he stopped eating ice cream for 3 months... lol.

My child I was slower to introduce spice too - mostly because that same hotsauce ice cream kid - he's 4 and my child is 2. The 4 year old whines that everything is spicy. Even basic stuff - he just any strong flavor and since he's 4 - the only good word he can use to describe any strong flavor - is spicy. He tells his little sister and my 2 year old 'don't eat that - it's spicy'. The 2 year olds call everything they hate spicy now - even water... which is obviously not spicy.

My 2 year old and I frequent a restaurant with a mildly spicy bbq chicken. I never offered or served it. My child asked me to try it and - amazingly - just like me - likes it. And I;ll offer it now and most of the time, it's eaten.

I do not personally know, nor ever heard of anyone spicing formula, or demanding their child eat spicy food and suffer. I think once kids reach a certain age- they develop the abilty to communicate what they do and do not like, and it goes from there.

I don't care for peppery foods, curry, or anything else of that ilk. As some others have said, I don't want to be punished for eating and that's exactly what it seems like to me.

One of my friends played a nasty joke on me. We all were meeting at a restaurant for supper. I was delayed at work. On way to the restaurant I called one of my friends and asked that they order for me. All of them were hot, spicy food eaters. All of them knew my intolerance to that type of food.

When I got there the waiter was just bringing out the food. It looked fantastic!! I took a big spoonful and shoved it in my mouth. The burning was so bad that I couldn't swallow, I could hardly breathe and tears were welling up in my eyes. Everyone laughed at me...I didn't think it was so funny, especially when they knew my very low tolerance. I sent the plate back and ordered something else. I told the waiter that my so called friends played a dirty joke on me.

I was pretty damn good with spicy food. Hotest ive ever done is ghost pepper salsa, i really only like spicy with mexican food or chips and salsa. Right now im a wuss who couldnt even handle jalapenos on his burger. But i hope to be a man again soon.

I read that what makes a pepper hot are the seeds. When making jalapeno poppers the seeds are removed. A friend and I recently went to a pizza place and he ordered poppers as an appetizer. I tried one, ate it, liked it and survived. I will eat them again.

Does nobody find though that when something is overly spicy it takes away from the taste? That might just be my low tolerance but if I eat something too spicy, it ruins the taste of everything else I'm eating lol

I recently started Hot Ones on YouTube as well... Probably a couple of years late to the party but some of them (Gordon Ramsey being one) are hilarious lol

Every Saturday or there abouts I get a House Special Kebab from our local kebab shop and always get extra chilli sauce.

I like it a lot but sady they have had to put up their prices and for me it's too much now. It used to be £13.50 last week and this week it's £14.70 and you don't get as much in the kebab as you did. Also asking for more sauce costs 50p.

So for me that could have been my last kebab as the price is just too much.

I do like their chilli though. It's tangy and HOT.

When I was around 8 years old we moved to another state. In the backyard was a small garden. My mom was working in the garden when I saw a small bush with all these pretty things growing on it...purple, yellow, orange, red, green...all beautiful colors. I asked my mom what they were. She said it was a ornamental pepper bush. do not eat the peppers!! I was the type of kid, when I was told not to do something, I did it away to find out why I wasn't suppose to do it. Can you guess what happened next? For those who think they already know, here's a math problem to work on while you're waiting for the rest to guess.

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
How many pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick?

I knew about green bell peppers, but not hot ones. I snuck a green one off the bush, went into the house, popped it in my mouth and bit down with enthusiasm. I screamed bloody murder. My mom came running in the house and immediately knew what I did. "You ate a pepper didn't you? After I told you not to." Oh, I remember those words well.

She had me chug down some Milk of Magnesia (oh, that was punishment enough...I hate the taste). Then after about 15 minutes, she had me drink a glass of milk. The burn finally eased off.
