Many historical weapons are ridiculously awesome some..... Eh not so much.
For example, we have long swords, great swords, arming swords, maces, clubs, and bows. Then we have billhooks, bec-de-corbin, spears, pikes, javelins and flails. Then we have a notoriously overrated weapon. Nunchucks. They're absolutely absurd in terms of effectiveness. The only exception of when nunchucks are a good weapon is when you don't have any other choice. Here's why I say that, when you swing a pair of chucks you're likely to have them bounce off and hit you (the wielder), you cannot follow through on a swing like you can with a sword or even a good old fashioned stick. Nunchucks when they are used only keep a seemingly rigid shape when they are in the air and when they connect to the target. After the impact that seemingly rigid shape becomes broken and it is reduced to nothing more than a broken stick held together by some rope.
A stick on the other hand would make for a superior weapon because you can block, parry, and whack or stab with it and best of all you can follow through in a slashing attack. Because you can follow through with a stick you can more easily drive an armored (and unarmored) opponent to the ground vs with nunchucks all that would happen is the chucks would make the initial strike then bounce off.
The defensive abilites of nunchucks are also garbage because you cannot parry any sort of strike like you could with something like a sword.
Any thoughts as to weapons this bad or worse? How do you feel about nunchucks?
