My mothers father was in the US military during ww2. While on leave back in the States he was fishing on a lake in a boat and had an epileptic fit and fell into the water and drowned. Some time after that my grandmother bought my mum to New Zealand when she was about 2 years old and they settled here.

My birth fathers ancestry went back to England and before that Norway. In fact I still had a great great grandmother still living in Norway when I was young. I never knew my father because he split from my mum when I was about 2 years old. I met him once when I was about 15, he died shortly afterwards.

My history going back to Norway created a Viking obsession of mine that lasts to this day lol.

UPDATE: So last year my grandma passed away at age 88. It was a form of dementia sadly. She was always a kind, lovely and gentle lady. My grandpa is still alive and is now 91 years old. He is just focussing on enjoying the rest of his life. His favourite saying has become " how have I managed stay alive this long!!”

My Nan is still alive in her 80s as well, however she is basically bed bound and in a care home. Last time I saw her she told us about the time that she once met Rowan Atkinson. It was raining and he stood under her umbrella. She just thought he was funny because of course he was Mr Bean. Just a fun little story. Brassica Prime:
