Family history:

Dad was a deadbeat who disappeared when I was five. Mother is also a deadbeat who took copious amounts of drugs that made her mind melt and she was committed to a mental asylum.

Grandparents are okay, but they were too old to take care of me, so as soon as my deadbeat mother was able to, they pawned me back to her.

I don't care about or remember any other family.

My family history dies with me. I refuse to procreate.

Thats a shame. You could start a new family history. Of course, it is always your choice.

My dad volunteered to serve in the US navy in WW2. He served on a cruiser and saw action in every major naval engagement in the Pacific after Midway. He shared many interesting stories.

One of his favorite mementos from the war was his army draft notice he received while in the South Pacific.

I do! I'm mixed. French/Italian. My Mom is French and my Dad is Italian. My parents told me my ancestors and later grandparents loved Europe so much they decided not to travel to America and just stay where they feel home is ^_^ This was also a time when many people dreamed of living in America for several different reasons but mainly for citizenship and if they even they move there, I would have been born an American citizen. As for my parents they decided on raising me and my siblings here in Paris and summers in Italy. It's been like this since I was 2 except for the one summer I visited the United States for the first time when I was 16. It was fun but every different. It took me sometime to learn English too. I didn't speak English until I was in the second grade. Before that the language was completely new to me and I took my time to learn it at home. Regardless, I'm proud to be from both countries :) If you would like something to watch on Netflix, here you go = One Piece ^_^

As of late 2020 an unknown bit of history surfaced for everyone in my family. Just as my last grandparent, my mum's mum, was dying, my dad gets an Email from a woman who turned out to be my half sister!

Yeah, I had spent nearly 28 years thinking I was an only child then find out that I am both brother and uncle. My eight year old nephew especially reminds many of us, myself included, of me at that age.

Recently celebrated my half sister's 40th birthday at our father's house too, great night.

Harry Blanshard Wood who was a victorian cross recipient was a relative of mine. I also had a relative who went down on The Hood, His name was ALEC BLENNER-HASSETT HADEN-MORRIS.

Not a lot is known about either of these Brave men :(

My Grandfather was a tinker/inventor. During the Great Depression, he invented that "zipper" you see on cigarette packs. He didn't have the money to patent it, but was hopeful he could sell his idea.

He smoked Lucky Strike, so he took his invention there. They rejected his idea. Six months later, the "zipper" was on all of the Lucky Strike packages. Of course my Grandfather could have sued them, but, here again, no money to fight them in court. Lucky Strike got all the credit, my Grandfather got none.

During the Depression, most people were out of work, standing in food lines, soup lines, lines for flour and sugar, etc. The banks were out of money, stores were out of stock on everything and no money to buy more.

My Grandfather had a grocery store/dry goods. He had the best bolts of material for making clothes. When he could negotiate price with the Chinese, he would buy several bolts of fine silk.

When the Depression hit and stores were closing down because of lack of stock and people didn't have money to buy, my Grandfather kept his store open and supported it with his own money. People came in and promised they would pay him back as soon as they found a job. Grandpa knew there were no jobs available, but he shook the customer's hand and said, "That's OK. Pay me when you can." His was the only store open in the area. He kept it open as long as he could until he was forced into bankruptcy. No money coming in and all of his savings going out.

After closing the store, he was forced to put the house up for sale. He, Grandma, my Mom and all of her siblings (5) went to live with my Great Grandfather who was working for the railroad and making good money. To try to supplement food, they would spend two days fishing in Lake Michigan once a week. Occasionally, they brought home some crabs and oysters along with all the fish they caught. He had a friend who would butcher a cow or pig for them.

My grandfather Paul used to tell me about how back in his day it didn't matter what school you had gone too, it didn't matter which district(zip code) you were from. He used to tell me about how he had gone to war, and came back into society as a civilian, no matter what he had gone through...he always was lucky enough to came back. The one thing he would always tell me is that all aprons are created equal, brown or white, and that he got into the crafting guild with a white apron, whenever he wanted, no questions asked. <3 R.I.P.
