It strikes me as a bit peculiar that - even now - people coming into the UK are not put into quarantine in the way that, for instance, New Zealand managed the situation. Here, people are told to go and self-isolate ..... no one checks on them and human nature being what it is I'm totally certain many of them don't.
The Kiwis put people into secure accommodation to ensure their compliance whereas we just send them on their way to do whatever.
Just recently people arriving are required to show proof of a negative Covid test but if they haven't got that they are fined £500 .... and sent on their way. Seriously, what's the f'ing point of that? They've just paid the Govt £500 to go and cough wherever they please.
We've just called the Army in to organise the logistics of getting people vaccinated. When I was a child the population was inoculated against Smallpox - all organised by the NHS. Seems the Administrators of that crumbling edifice are no longer capable despite having a huge budget and many more paper-pushers than in days of yore.
A Senior Govt official recently turned up at a GP surgery as a PR stunt to celebrate the arrival of the Oxford vaccine. Rather embarrassing for him when the vaccine delivery failed to arrive for his Press shoot. Piss up and brewery spring to mind.
The boss of the company that worked next door at my office (which I havent visited since March) has been coming to work for the last three weeks. He interviewed approximately 6 people for some new job or other in that time.
His wife let slip to one of the people that work there that he suspected he had covid about three weeks ago. And last week got tested and was positive.
Unsurprisingly, that didnt go down very well with his staff. Ouch!
Newshub: Block New Zealand's borders to US, UK travellers to save us from new COVID-19 strains - Dr Michael Baker.

I agree, New Zealand hasn't had a community outbreak in many, many months. If this new strain gets into our communities we are done for. This strain has already reached our borders from overseas travlers. It only takes one employee or quarantine escapee for our country to become infected. It's better to lose money here in one area than the whole country being in lock down...
Nothing to report where I live, to my knowledge almost no one has covid out this way. No restrictions on anything, now people are doing what they should always do during any flu season and just take precautions.
My neighbours a few doors down all had covid just recently, and now my brother and his wife have it.
Luckily for those I know the worst they have had is flu sympstoms.
Shit gets real when you know people who have it.
Remember Caz. Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I lost 2 aunts in the spring who were in 2 different care homes where there were residents with Covid-19. It wasn't given as their cause of death but I have to wonder if it was involved.

I think there is no question that more can be done in the policy realm to address the Covid-19 issue in countries like the U.S and U.K, and New Zealand is an example of how an appropriate government response can make a huge difference in eliminating the virus.
I do think that it is somewhat unrealistic to compare a county like New Zealand to the U.K since there are some major differences, with New Zealand being an isolated island nation with a small population while the U.K is close to Europe and has about 67 million inhabitants. So, it is reasonable to argue that New Zealand does have some huge advantages to consider.
Yes, I entirely get that NZ is less of a 'hub' than the UK and with a very much smaller population - however, until very recently people were, and had been for a long time, coming into the country as visitors, on business, returning from foreign holidays etc. with no requirement of proof of health not even the most rudimentary 'temperature checks' at airports etc.
Just told to go home and self-isolate. Yeah great idea.
Even now, with a new strain absolutely ripping through our population we are still not insisting that persons without proof of health are contained for an incubation period. Bonkers.
