Things are looking hopeful in the UK. This is a report about falling Covid related deaths from the BBC website

That's very promising news :)

I'm jealous of my friends back in the UK being able to start doing things again, especially sit in a beer garden at the pub haha.

Booked in for my first dose next Tuesday as I was fortunate enough to find an appointment. They tell us here that 18+ will be eligible by May 24th but we'll see if that actually translates into available appointments

Getting my vaccine tomorrow morning :) And Ontario opened up 18+ for those in hotspots so my wife has her appointment next week along with a bunch of other friends in the area. After months of terrible vaccine rollout here in Canada, it finally feels like we're getting somewhere.

In regards to travel...
Banning travel this late in the pandemic only serves to help in the most extreme situations (e.g what's happening in India right now which is terrible :( )

We're going to be living with Covid for the foreseeable future either way (even with vaccines) so if you're suggesting widespread / strict travel bans to try and eliminate Covid, that time has come and gone :( Plus there's always going to be some form of travel between countries (deemed essential), even if its a handful a people compared to thousands or millions on a normal day.

I guess the current plan is as vaccines roll out, slowly relax rules locally & then slowly relax travel restrictions later down the line.

Our oh-so-sensible Leaders invited a delegation from India to the G7 summit in London. Even though India is not part of this cabal and they are in the grip of raging Covid with a massive daily death toll, and the testing carried out prior to their departure from India is - to me - questionable in it's accuracy (I refer to the Australian/New Zealand case).

Needless to say, several of the delegation have fallen ill with Covid - doubtless brought with them and passed around whoever was on the airplane with them and anyone here who they have come into contact with.

On a brighter note, there's a News item which is saying that a third jab will very probably be available sometime in Autumn for the over 50's which will incorporate defence against a number of the known variants.

I couldn't believe it when I read about there being delegates allowed in from India, especially as a visit to India had been cancelled due to the rising number of cases. Where is the logic in that? They could easily have been included via an internet link. *sigh* I just hope this error doesn't cause problems here because we've made good progress keeping infection rates down.
Edit to add: the other passengers on that flight must be really worried. I assume they've all had to isolate in hotels due to arriving from a red listed country. Why weren't the delegates also required to isolate?

Coronavirus: COVID-19 uses spikes to damage blood vessels study finds, sparking new vaccine conspiracy theories:

A lot of people think of it as a respiratory disease, but it's really a vascular disease," said Uri Manor, co-author of a new study into how COVID-19 attacks the body. "That could explain why some people have strokes, and why some people have issues in other parts of the body.:
