Except it's not "jail". They have the potential of having or carrying a highly communicable disease which may actually kill some people and leave others with long term illness - thus they are being quarantined for a very short period for the protection of others.

So, not like jail at all and faintly ridiculous to suggest it is.
Nor is it being dressed up as a 'free vacation'. It's clearly being called quarantine and is being used to try to prevent potential viral spread.

There's a very easy way to avoid this period of quarantine - don't go on holiday until the current World pandemic has been brought under control. And conduct your business meetings electronically.

@ Slay - thanks!

If people can't cope with less than 2 weeks in a hotel room they had better not break the law and get put in a
real
jail.
edit to add: I'd agree that sometimes the food hadn't been great so I hope lessons were learnt. People also need access to the internet included in their stay because everyone needs something to do to help pass the time.

Definition of jail
1: a place of confinement for persons held in lawful custody
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/jail

Seems like the term "jail" literally applies to these "covid hotels".

But, you know, if you want to debate over the lawfulness of the confinements, I'll agree, they're not lawful, so, maybe "jail" isn't an apt description.

Would you prefer the phrase "internment camp" instead?

They also need fresh air, and sunlight, and exercise...

And apparently now in Toronto "guests" of these "hotels"... or should we say "prisoners" in these "internment camps"... are having their cell phones confiscated. The people aren't legally obligated to stay at these covid hotels, but, they don't want the people knowing this, so they're taking away their means of communication.

No, I don't want to debate semantics. They are not in jail, they are in quarantine.

There is no criminal behaviour associated with being quarantined, one does not carry a criminal record with you once leaving quarantine (as one does when tried, convicted, sentenced and served actual jail time).

You're just being silly about the whole thing, for the sake of being cantankerous and edgy.
Bored with it now.

Absolutely correct.

Which is why "internment camp" seems more apt than "jail".

You seem to think it's okay to lock people away, simply because they have been somewhere? What's the difference between someone coming into the country from an airplane, and someone going into a Walmart or other large superstore?

What makes you think one is more dangerous than the other, or has a higher risk of viral infection?

At some point though, you are going to take a stand, aren't you? I mean, if they start quarantining people in interment camps for going in public without it being "essential", you're going to stop and say "hey, that's not right", aren't you?

You're not just going to go along with things... just because... right?

Fun Fact: a quarantine is technically 40 days, from Italian quaranta giorni, literally "space of forty days", from Latin quadraginta"forty" and was first used in English (as quarentyne) to describe the number of days a wife could remain in her dead husband's house, and the length of time Jesus spent fasting in the desert (the desert was named "quarentyne" meaning 40 days).

COMPLY.

Doesn't matter if there's no logic or its unlawful. COMPLY.

You need to COMPLY.

If you don't COMPLY, you will be put into quarantine faculties until you COMPLY.

That's what you're going for here, right? COMPLIANCE?

If you are not wearing your mask properly, you will need to be quarantined.
COMPLY.
