So, based off what I understand...the IPhone 14 base model will have the same exact A15 processor as the IPhone 13 and the same camera. It is essentially the same phone, and I don't think someone with the base model 13 should upgrade to the 14.

Just my two cents. :)

I totally agree, the base models really aren't a big leap from the 13... in fact one of the things I'm considering is buying an Apple refurbished 13 Pro. My current XR is a refurb and when I got it,
it looked like a brand new phone, absolutely pristine.

You also make a good point about MP, bigger doesn't mean better.

+1 to the refurb, that's what I do with most things these days. Less waste / better for the environment too (theoretically). With phones it just means you get slightly less battery life.
I'm not a power-user but when I do use my phone a lot there's always my trusty powerbank!

The Apple Store was plagued with errors on Friday on payment processing :(

Currently have the iPhone 12 ProMax so pre-ordered the 14 ProMax on Friday. Unfortunately missed the Sept 16th delivery date so should receive it around Sept 22nd.

I certainly couldn't justify an upgrade from the 13 to 14 and arguably even from the 12 isn't too justified either but oh well, I took the jump haha.

The Dynamic Island UI update built into the new pill at the top is one highlight for me aside from ActionShots, CinematicMode that the 12 doesn't have. But the Dynamic Island UI update while seems simple (e.g its literally just notifications built into a physical screen cut out) is actually some fantastic UI design and makes use of a necessary physical cutout and with OLED allowing greater screen pixel control it blends that pill right into notifications.

Probably one of the best UI design updates I've seen in a long time, both from Apple and other companies.

I'm wavering now... I haven't had a brand new phone in years as I tend to buy the outgoing model at a reduced price... but maybe I'll go for it this time.

That won't be a problem, I only change every 3 or 4 years or so... I've only owned 4 iphones :
an iphone 2, a 4, a 6 and an XR.

I've had my Macbook Pro even longer, bought in 2011 and still working fine (if a little slow compared to recent models)

I don't know if this applies were you are but there's reports of long delays =/

My carrier (o2) is showing "delivery time more than 4 weeks" for the Pro Max, it looks like they have the other models in stock.
