Too many people have too much time on their hands, and nothing of value to occupy it.
These sort of efforts to rewrite what has already been written by others, whether it's works of fiction or historical records, truly offends me. Where the hell do these freaks get off trying to decide for the rest of us - and future generations - what we are and are not allowed to read?!
Preserving these works as originally not only protects the integrity of the material, it also provides an important historical context of what the world was like at that time. Books and stories have the power to transport us to other places, and other times, like nothing else. Yes, some of the norms back then are not what we would find acceptable today - and there's nothing wrong with that. History is there to study and learn from, so that hopefully we make better choices moving forward. A vital part of progress is being able to look back and see how far we have come. Nothing good comes from warping that perspective. Rewriting history will never change what really happened. Similarly, rewriting classics using modern perspectives doesn't make them better. Rather, it destroys the historical context in which they were created, thereby the original intent of the author is lost.
If these aspiring book-burners want a different point of view out there, they can attempt to write and market their own original works. Maybe somebody will buy them. They can just keep their damn red pens away from the classics!
One thing history has made quite clear: any side that engages in book-burning has been on the side of evil. Whether they are destroying the original text in the name of "inclusion", or hurling the books into flaming barrels, the outcome is the same.

These ego-driven idiots would be the type to help an old woman cross the street, when she didn't want to go there.
Yes, she's old. She's not chronologically-challenged.
Come and get me, word murderers (worderers)!
I'll use gendered pronouns on you and make you cry!

James bond books getting the edits too. I guess we might as well rewrite textbooks too saying slavery never happened.
I saw that headline recently. I can imagine how that might look:
Curl up in your safe space and enjoy the PC adventures of a responsible and sensitive modern-day hero - the man-bun sporting, skinny jean-wearing non-binary global citizen James Bland! Swoon as they sip a trademark soy latte, shaken not stirred, before James proceeds to apologize for their offensive words or actions, real or imagined.
Yeah, I'd pass on that, thank you.
