I watched the first season of Fear The Walking Dead. I tried watching The Walking Dead, but I just couldn't get into it. Resident Evil (the games) has just spoiled me on exploring the origins of the outbreak and conflict when it comes to zombie narratives.
Here, I'll give you this strawberry if you keep it a secret!

I thought the season opener was ok... but just ok.
It should have been huge, particularly as it was the 100th episode.

I expected a lot more from the battle.
And not shooting Negan when all those guns were trained on him was just ludicrous.

I guess they're spinning it out a bit longer before the Negan saga is closed.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

A bit of a review….

Now, it looks like the overall themes for this season (or the first half) are
- Mercy versus Murder
- when does War end and Peace begin
- and the Morality of all that

So I’ll start with the man who seems to embody all of it….Morgan.
Morgan – as a charater – is one of the best in the series.
Well written in all ways (some absolutely cracking dialogue) and extremely well played by Lennie.
I think the problem I’m having is with the pacing of the show.
For Morgan, it has been a month (maaaaybe two) since he followed Carol out of Alexandria.
In those 1-2 months, he has seen and done some things that have not helped him recover from his trauma.
But for the viewers, we’ve been seeing “Morgan is still traumatised” for a year and a half now….and it’s becoming a bit of a grind.
Maybe the solution is to have Morgan in every second or third episode.
Or do some sort of jump forward in time.
Or kill him.

And then there’s Rick….
He seems to having the same mood swings as Morgan, and losing some of his sanity as well.
I’ve seen a few people say that it looks like Rick and Daryl are going to have a significant disagreement.
The last time they did that was in (I think) Season 6, over the Alexandrians or something.
In the end, Rick admitted Daryl had been right, and Rick started behaving somewhat sensibly again.
So I’m kind of hoping Daryl can talk some sense into Rick again.

Tara is obviously traumatised too….I hope she comes through okay.

Otherwise….loved the first three episodes….as joyful, sad, and terrifying as they were.

Can barely wait for the rest.

I agree with you AMA, in all aspects. The theme is 100% Mercy vs Murder, and it is Morgan who carries the weight of that on him. He used to just want to jail the evil, now he wants to demolish it completely. Now he's literally tearing himself up about it.

OUCH :|
Episode 4 has been the most painful so far.

But when I say ‘painful’, I don’t necessarily mean for me. So here comes some context…

As far as I can make out, The Plan is this…

Step One
Scare/annoy Negan (and anyone else in Sanctuary), before surrounding the place with walkers (just to make sure no-one gets in or out)
Step Two
Take out any Saviour outposts, to make sure they can’t come to the aid of the people in Sanctuary, or attack Rick from behind
Step Three
Go back to Sanctuary to finish the job

As far as plans go, the theory of it is pretty solid.
But it is only a plan…it needs people to carry it out.
And that is where it can get messy.

Here is what got messy…
Step One
Gabriel got stuck in Sanctuary and Gregory escaped
Step Two
- Jesus decided to take prisoners, Tara and Morgan disagreed with that
- Jesus and Morgan fought, Morgan nearly lost his sanity and stormed off in a huff
- Several Alexandrians (I think it was mostly Alexandrians in the same group as Rick) were injured or killed (leaving others grieving)
- Gregory showed up at Hilltop
- Jesus arrived at Hilltop, with his prisoners in tow
- The Kingdom took the biggest blow of any group yet

I hope The Plan has some leeway built into it, for if things got messy like that. Or Rick has a backup plan of some sort.

Because people are clearly:
- showing some interest in their own agendas, which may not mesh with The Plan
- getting distracted
- getting completely disheartened, so far as to lose all interest in fighting

I really hope Rick wasn’t relying on all those people being there for Step Three, because it’s starting to look like not all of them will be.

Not that we’re even close to Step Three yet.

Well, I guess the writers couldn't make things
too
easy for Rick (*Eyeroll*)

Best get settled in for the next 4 episodes (*Yawns*). It could be a very bumpy ride.

I'm starting to despair about this season so far.

As much as I love the show, it's been boring and repetitive for the first four episodes... quite an achievement making war boring.

Whoops...I nearly forgot about the satellite outpost assault group.

The only Alexandrian I actually took note of was Tara, I think the rest were a mixture of Hilltop (they lost at least two of their number) or Kingdom residents (these ones don't yet know about the massive losses to the Kingdom).

So...yeah. Episodes 6 and 7 are (probably) going to be more Internal Struggles at those two communities.

Episode 8?
At this rate...more speeches?
Maybe we'll finally get back to Alexandria...find out what Carl, Michonne and Rosita have been up to.
Maybe it'll have been attacked by the noticeably-absent Scavengers.

I feel the same way Rooh, never thought i'f actually say this but they seem to be dragging things out too much now with little silly mistakes happening.

If anyone had been through what Rick has been through at the hands of Negan, there is no way he would not have killed Negan when he had the chance, to me that just pretty much killed the show for me.

Saying that though, i will still be watching tonight lol =)
