finally built up the courage to do my taxes

i did get fined the full $695 for not having health insurance :(

luckily my returns would have been huge this year. even after the fine this is the most ive ever gotten back.

i dont get how taxes work in all honesty. my income is way below the poverty line both this year and last year. this year i earned 125% as much as i did the year before. but i payed nearly three times as much in taxes throughout the year.

i had to pay a huge tax on the severance package i got when i got laid off at the beginning of last year. i did get most of that back now. i only had a few weeks of unemployement. the severance package was two months pay, so i never had any real period without pay. and i got several hundred dollars break from the student loans that i paid last year. so thankfully those covered the fine

just glad im done :s

You should all move to the UK.

We have relatively low taxes, free healthcare, hardly any snow and I have a lovely garden shed to rent out as affordable accomodation.

Mr Weazle usually gets locked up in it at night uses it as a man-cave, but I can relocate him to the compost heap.

Bad luck on that fine - perhaps they were ditching the fine from when the new system started rather than for the fines incurred in the previous system.

Hardly any snow :O when I was over there for approx. 5 weeks, arrived just before Christmas day - anyway the snow was close to knee deep in the backyard and when traveling on the train, cars were covered in snow to the ground and the trees were covered in snow - it was just beautiful, and the beautiful white swans were skidding on the ice - I absolutely loved my stay in England - and I loved there country pubs and there double decker buses and there accent and there ...
If fat means flavour then I'm ******* delicious!

Fifi is a southern softie who rarely gets snowed on and I probably get snowed on even less!

Those up North get more snow and I think some areas of the West Country also get more than us Southerners.

I am glad you enjoyed your visit. I like our country pubs as well, but not so keen on double-deckers. Do you have them over in NZ?

Well, not much snow relatively speaking. To Alaska, that is.

It's only now and then we get any significant snowfall - maybe once or twice this year the major airports were disrupted for a few hours?

Although we're such wimps it only takes an inch to bring the country grinding to a halt.

ZOMG IT'S BLIZZARDING !!!!! ..... 3 flakes later .....

"Check the food supplies Ethel, we're in for a long wait until the snow plough arrives" (never even seen one here ever)

Headline News "Traffic chaos as snow blankets Britain" - one bloke on a pushbike skidded on some ice in Cumbria on the way home from the Pub)

"Rush Hour Misery as Commuters Stranded" (some stroppy train driver saw a frozen leaf on the track and had a tantrum, but mostly because his wife forgot to put any pickle in his cheese sandwiches)

"Food Supplies Airlifted In to Cut-Off Communities" (the Queen was at Balmoral for Christmas, didn't order enough mince pies and the lazy old bint couldn't be bothered to pull on her wellies and pop to the corner shop)

We love a good weather drama, us Brits.
