We dig the trench we have to go to certain depths for water electric and gas. cover with a marker plastic bag type stuff for water and gas a few inch above and black plastic for electric few inch above. Apparently they are not obligated to do so...

Essentially it so when they hit hard ground rather than spend hours jiggapicking it out they just go over it at less depth.

We think the guy next door gave somebody a bit of money to redirect the gas pipe when it was originally put in as it goes just under the wall seprating the drives then doubles back...

Also one of the best examples of bureaucracy. When the electric team had joined the cables to the mains they had to refill the hole with hardcore, while they were doing this the water team had to watch them fill it then dig it out to connect the water to the mains.

You know what's scary? Being reminded this whole deal here exists and is still a thing. Then feeling like a nostalgic **** enough to come back and check around.

I remember the days when this place had twenty-thirty people on at any one moment. Now you're all down to two currently active members. What happened?

I do suppose all the cool kids left eons ago and I sense forgot my log in details to even check up on those guys. Though I can imagine what's going on there.

Woah, nice to see an old face again!

Yeah, off topic isn't as active as it once was. The forums as a whole have gotten more active since the release of legacy mode, though.

(I've changed my name, I'm sure you won't recognize me. Used to be Accomplishes, before that was A Ringwraith.)

I suspect I'm older than that.

I'm of the era when threads on such controversial topics as global warming exploded before your eyes as a hundred viewpoints descended on the topic to get a word in before the greenback mods arrived to shut it down. Same with evolution.

God... That had to be well before 2008. What business do I have remembering this and why am I bothering to nostalgia trip? I'm shocked the same people I wrote with in the Story Forums are still around there, and I had to start using that as I slowed down using RSOT.

This all had to be way back when Longcat was a thing. Or something. Looking at my profile all the oldest threads I've posted on were as far back as '08; but those are Stories threads and they never die. But I know I was around for a few years before then. Three? Four?

I'm more than an old face. I feel I'm beyond ancient at this point.

Ah, in that case you might remember my original login name. But I'm not going to say it on the forums for security reasons.

Thanks for stopping by though! I do remember what you were talking about - I started posting around 2008, when the forums were very active. I think the rise of social media has siphoned a lot of people away to Twitter, Reddit, Google+ or Facebook.

No, there's been a steady decline of players for at least 5 years. This is because Jagex decided to cleanse the RSOF of anything that could reflect poorly on them (like Rants) or topics suitable for the supposed 13+ demographic Runescape is supposedly aiming for. Instead, they've been content to drive people off to Runescape fansites because of their ridiculously strict and all-encompassing moderation policy here.

Speaking of which, does anyone think that a thread for "current events" would be able to survive here without being locked for politics/religion? It would ostensibly be about global or national news but I don't know if discussion about something like the Middle East would be "religious" or not.

I kind of agree about the social media. In its own right, it is good for talking, reaching out to many, etc., but also has its downsides like attracting the wrong attention or audience, trying to standardize or coerce people into using something they may not like, trust, or want to use. And let's be honest, if there were only a few sites or companies out there, the use of these things would diminish, and it would be pretty boring!

I remember that being the major reason the original RSOT community I hung out with abandoned ship for their own forum in the first place. What was here wasn't very open to them and they wanted to head off and talk about their own things on their own time. I don't know if it's taboo to mention them or not anymore. Then again, even if I did and got suspended I would have already disappeared long enough it wouldn't matter, it's happened already.

The sort of pattern is also what's kept me migrating around. After the RSF here I was on the Spore Forums for a while before the admins literally disappeared and left the mid-level moderation staff control of the forum. For me and my friends there in the RP forum we couldn't possibly stay long, especially when we got on the one mod's bad side for silly reasons.

Next was the Minecraft forums which was fine and all until they admins really started to crack down to pander to the twelve year olds. So we picked up and moved again, taking all the stuff we had since the Spore forums with us. Again.

I'd hazard corporate policy to keep a certain status quo is certainly a factor in a lot of lost activity anywhere. That and forums like this being literally at the bottom. Jagex and Mojan* and co really just want chat relevant to them, and what they can control to keep at a certain rating.

I have a tendency to believe it would not be able to survive. Even apart from the whole politics/religion rule, it is true that numerous threads or topics of similarly volatile nature erupt and get locked. In reality, if they actually removed anything that had to do with those topics, there really would be no discussion at all since every topic relates, drifts into, connects, or involves other topics in some way. That said, if you really want to discuss a topic, you could try to do so indirectly, or possibly by using other similar and close fields, or even maybe get away with generalizing a situation (thus, no one is to blame, made a scapegoat, or named). I wouldn't try to break the rules simply for the sake of breaking the rules. Also, the thing about news or current events is that news or current events can change very rapidly; thus, the subject is quickly irrelevant. (Not meant to be good or bad, just worth mentioning.) Anyway, does that help?
