I'd say I'm either on the fence/don't care either way or lean slightly on the side of anti-monarchy. It's traditional, it belongs in the past. As time moves on, it leaves little room or major place for them in modern day society other than a thing to look back on :P

Being in Canada means we're part of the commonwealth (why still?) without the perks of the bank holiday back home everyone got haha

The Queen/King/Governor General do provide a vital role within Canada. They provide the royal assent on all legislation being passed through parliament. Should Canadian politicians attempt to pass legislation so egregious and illegal, the King can order the Governor General to withhold royal assent on the legislation to prevent it from becoming law. They're basically the "last stand defense" against a tyrannical government who are not acting in the best interest of the people.

Well, we do get Canada Day and Victoria Day as holidays.

Which holiday are they shafting us over?

I had to learn all about their role within Canada as part of my citizenship test late last year :/

And will also have to swear allegiance to the King O_o as part of the oath when comes around in the next few months, even though I'm already a citizen of the commonwealth being British lol. I guess they standardize the process though which makes sense logistically.

Everyone in the UK had yesterday off as an extra bank holiday for the Coronation, I guess we here don't get that extra perk ;)

Welcome to Canada! (I assume you passed the test). If you need any advice about moose or beavers or how to apologize for things that aren't your fault, don't hesitate to ask! ^_^

Well, it makes sense that you have to swear allegiance to the top dog of a country... although, as a natural born Canadian, I never had to swear allegiance to anyone to be a citizen.

Were you planning on attending? lol

I can see why they would give UK citizens the day off, in case they want to attend. But no one in Canada was planning on attending the ceremony, since you can't do that from Canada, so it would be kind of weird to give everyone in Canada the day off.

The Coronation was Saturday, not yesterday. So giving Canadians yesterday off makes just as much sense as giving British folk the day off, give we're all part of the commonwealth. :)
Oh, well, that's just weird then... unless the coronations involve 2 days of drinking? :D

The newspapers here are still full of it and the Red Tops (gutter press) regurgitating rehash after rehash of pointless stories about who snubbed who, whose frock was the best, why Meghan Markle didn't attend (yes, they still call her that) and endless dross from 'body language experts' and 'lip readers' all making claims of this or that which are essentially made up rubbish.

Still, at least it's all over now bar the sweeping up and we can get back to tales of corrupt politicians, botched vanity surgery abroad that the NHS has to sort out, current and forthcoming workforce strikes and how long are the queues at foodbanks or to see a Doctor.

A casual read of an average British newspaper is guaranteed to conjure visions of Armageddon and cause even the stiffest upper lip to quiver. Slightly.
