I need a new keyboard, yet again. It's always the o i u that wears out, closely followed by the h r and n. Just thought I'd share that with you.
I've noticed the cost of living going up already. My teeny-weeny little car used to cost about £30 to fill up - today I paid £40 for three quarters of a tank. My gas supplier has gone bust and we've been assigned to a different one, awaiting the news on what absurd monthly direct debit they plan to extract from us.
My food shopping bill has taken a hike despite not buying anything extra or unusual and the insurance for my dog doubled from last year - money grubbing weasels that they are, I cancelled and got it cheaper elsewhere.
I think 2022 is going to be a bit gnarly.
Hi Fi Fi
If it is the letters on the keyboard that have worn out, and not the keys themselves, there are some very cheap, nifty little packs of stick on letters on Amazon or eBay that you can use to replace them. Have done it a couple of times and they work really well.
And yes judging by the amount of price up labels I am putting out each week at work, the price of most things is rising all the time.
Vets bills now are most frightening, and make you wonder if some people avoid taking their pets to the vet when they should as it is so unaffordable.
We recently had to take the dog to the vet as he was limping after waking up or resting, and as there were no obvious signs of what was wrong an x-ray was necessary and cost the best part of a £1000, as this has left us none the wiser, we have been advised to wait to see if it is a muscle injury but after that the next step will be an MRI which will cost between £2000 and £3000. I am just hoping that his insurers don`t search and find a hidden loophole

Yikes! Those costs are eye watering! I really can't believe an x ray actually costs that much . I realise animals need to be sedated so they lie still but even so...

I don`t know Megycal if it is because he is such a large dog. He is a huge Doberman, however I cannot see how that is relevant. Also it appears that the charges for x-rays etc seem to vary according to what part of the country you are. Our vet bills down here in the West Country are pretty horrendous.
Thanks for the keyboard tips folks! I won't try the nail varnish one as I have a degree of Essential Tremor so I'd just end up making the whole thing look like a chimp's finger painting
I agree about the Vet costs - shocking! Funnily enough just yesterday we had our 14 yr old JRT in for a limp and they were immediately wittering on about getting an X-ray (£650 minimum). When I suggested it may be arthritis, given her age and active lifestyle when younger and perhaps they could try a conservative route of pain relief first .... Vet just looked at me blankly. Like I was talking Swahili instead of Cash Register (his first language of course).
Anyway, I started her on paracetomol yesterday afternoon and by this morning the limp has vanished.
It snowed here last night, only about an inch left this morning but Lordy! it's chilly in the wind. We got a fan for our woodburner as I'd been reading about how splendid they're supposed to be. I can't quite see the logic myself, but I'll give it a go.
I was reading in the paper that the Govt have said us Pensioners will be getting a raise next year of what amounts to about 73p per day. I feel quite overwhelmed thinking about how I'll spend such riches. Do I hand it straight over to the gas company, or should I split it with them and the Council Tax sharks? Decisions, decisions.
I've recently applied to get my state pension and got the letter confirming it yesterday. Now I feel really old.
I don't qualify for the full pension due to being contracted out of the extra bit ( serps?? ) with my work pension. My work pension more than makes up for the reduction and I've been getting that pension since I was 60.
We had some snow overnight but its mostly melted now but it was
very
windy. I had to shut the shower room door because it was forcing the extractor fan round and making a moaning noise.
As for vet charges I think part of the astronomical rise in charges is due to a lot of practices being part of large conglomerates which may be owned by investment companies. Its true this allows them to have access to all sorts of 'shiny' machines and facilities but sometimes old fashioned care and common sense needs to prevail. Also the rise in pet insurance means they have a chance to milk more cash from the situation thinking the owners won't be paying but it comes at the cost of increasing premiums. There's also the risk of financial problems if the insurers won't cough up. What about people who don't have pet insurance?
Many years ago I had a cat that had liver problems when he was about 10. The vet thought it could date back to when he survived being poisoned by slug pellets 8 years earlier. When his condition deteriorated she said they could do tests to see exactly what was wrong but the end result would be the same ( he was dying ) and he'd hate it. She passed up the opportunity to make extra cash for the pratice in favour of what was best for him.
Has anyone seen Dong? She's been absent for quite a long time. I hope she is OK
