Pikelets isn't a common name for them here. They would just be called Crumpets.
Crumpets are a completely different texture, taste everything.
All that would matter would be the appearance.
No, not at all. Maybe in your country? In my country, they two totally different flavours, look, and ingredients. Crumpets have yeast, while Pikelets are made with baking powder. Pikelets resemble pancakes but are sweeter and fluffier and smaller. Pikelets have a thicker batter than pancakes.
Those things that you illustrate as Pikelets, we'd call them Scottish Pancakes here (at least, I would).
When I initially Googled Pikelets it gave me images of things that were much flatter/thinner, with lots of holes in (a la crumpets) and entirely irregular shapes because no ring is used in the cooking.

Google is quite funny how it googles - it must do different things for different countries. As when I googled each item above, I got exactly what I was looking for.
Yes. When I looked again (just now, in case my senile memory from yesterday ( ? ) was failing) I got differing images - a mixture of the thin irregular items alongside images of items that looked like Scottish Pancakes (for want of a better description).
It entertains me, this difference in names by country for the same or similar things, especially foodstuffs.

I wonder with a place like England, it's so vast, with different food names that is the reason for a variety of google images, whereas New Zealand being so small the name of items is the same nationally??
