Is Kill La Kill incredibly similar to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or is it interesting enough on it's own to watch? I personally disliked TTGL, just didn't find any of the characters to be interesting whatsoever, and characters are usually what interest me the most, and the interaction between them and others.
I wish I could post reaction images.
To not like TTGL is to not like fun. I mean yeah... the characters are cliche and it practically follows every anime trope there is, but that's the point. It takes everything that's anime about anime and goes wild.
Let me just ramble on about TTGL- The first episode are somewhat slow moving but man once they get to the Spiral King, things start to get really exciting. So on and so on, everything that happens while they're in space is cray cray. Then that ending... man... that ending... As much as I like to bask in my obscure anime, I can't deny how excellent TTGL was. It would probably place within my top 30 at least and in the top 5 of the 21st century.
As for if Kill la Kill is anything like it, well... They're both directed by the same person and has that similar over the top craziness.

I watched the first five or so episodes of TTGL, and even then, that took a lot out of me. I guess I'll give it another chance, if it gets better as you've said.
