Sorry, I think the heats my fault. looks like I dragged the Australian summer over here with me lol. Still, could be worse, I spend all day in the same room as a 600+ degree coal oven....
@i Revive
The show has been airing in Japan as far as I am aware, a manga wont change much. I cant imagine that it has the same sort of presence in Japan that it has had in the west though. Japan already has such a high concentration of 'cute' media and a dearth of media pushing idealistic moral values, its just another drop in the bucket as far as they are concerned.
The western situation was a lot different, aside from the anime-initiated who are already up to their eyeballs in the whole 'cute girls do cute things' genre, most people have never really seen something like what MLP offers. Becasue thats really what it is, a cute girls, cute things show (never mind the fact that they are ponies, assume that people are more prone to recognizing traits and tropes rather than species as a means of establishing character identity)
I have long thought, and Japan tends to back me up on this, that there is a side of the masculine soul that actually revels in cute things that they are expected to suppress. MLP seems to have become some sort of bizarre conduit for that, since people are more prone to expressing themselves freely on the internet.
Of course, this is only half the truth for those that legitimately do like the show. Theres a big chuck of sheep and trolls who 'like' the show ironically. Hence the reason I dont like the 'brony' descriptor.
