Well, just finished Pandora Hearts, a shounen anime that's actually thought of pretty highly and has been on my to watch list for a decent amount of time now so I thought I might as well watch it. At first, I was thought it was pretty damn dull. The first few episodes are pretty typical of a shounen anime. Everything's all butterflies and lolipops with slight hints at a possible plot all of which they try to put to rest with comedy, only to come back up when things actually start happening and expect to get some kind of a rise out of the viewers (kind of like the terrible trolls of these forums...).
Even when things do start to happen, I still found it kinda dull. It wasn't until probably the 6th episode that I started enjoying it more and more. The plot was pretty straight forward and built solidly, but deviated a little too much and caused it to rush straight into the ground. I also found myself predicting events a little too easily, thus causing me to be quite unsurprised and disappointed at various points.
The comedy was decent, nothing special, more of an unneeded distraction when something serious just happened. Action, like the comedy, was nothing special aside from a few scenes. I also felt that there was a possibility for romance in this, but this aspect went unfulfilled. (Kinda like that epic dream your alarm wakes you up in the middle of.) The characters were pretty good, in fact one of them even made it on my favorite characters list. There's a good amount of development for some and the relationships between characters are also pretty well done. The only thing being a problem here is some characters got less screen time than they should have.
Now for what I found wrong with this anime:
As I mentioned earlier, the pacing. This anime is basically a box that your mover tried to pack your desk into. It just barely fits in the box; the box is just barely able to hold it without tearing open and when you pick it up you ask yourself (cont.)
