@Margerald
try:
*Fate/zero
*Golden Boy (warning: main character has a strange obsession with toilets)
*Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
*Kino's Journey
*Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
*Yosuga no Sora (you'll love this...)
*Bin*ougami ga!
*Kyousougiga (the first one, feels like FLCL in a way)
*Love Hina
*Kamen no Maid Guy (this one is just strange)
*Spice and Wolf

Alright Margerald. I have just the show for you!
Legend of the Galactic Heroes! 110 episodes of greatness. Possibly two of the greatest characters in anime with one hell of a story.
This and Evangelion are my two most favorite anime.

LOGH seems boring by the looks of it, but I honestly can't judge it before watching the first 5-10 episodes. The plotline appears to revolve around two commanders and something about an interstellar war between nations. Forgive me if you consider this to be blasphemy, but this sounds a lot like Star Wars. Can you give me a little more insight?

Farrrrrr from boring. A lot of people who watch it deem it the greatest anime of all time. Let's see here... I'll just go for some stats. It's ranked 5th in the top anime page on MAL with a mean score of 9.12 and 53.3% of people rated it a 10/10 and 32.5% placed it in their top 5 favorites. Most all of the reviews people gave it a 10/10, one particular guy said it was better than Star Wars. I've only seen Star Wars when I was little, I don't remember much so I can't really give an opinion on it.
You've must have seen Code Geass right? Well this sums it up perfectly:
Imagine Code Geass without "magical eyes", mechs, ideas like "the one who yells louder wins", immortal women and stupid idealism (hi Suzaku). You with me so far? Now, imagine Code Geass where there are dozens of great commanders like Lelouch on both sides, where political intrigues, plots and schemes are far from uncommon. Imagine battles of epic proportions and war on the galactic scale, where winning side is decided only by commanders intelligence, number of troops, their morale and available resources, not superunits like Lancelot. Do this and you've invented LoGH.BTW: concept of main hero searching for vengeance against Empire that did bad things to his sister, and exacting this vengeance using military and political means first appeared in LoGH, not CG. Lelouch copied Reinhard in many ways, but I can't say it's a bad thing. LoGH is just too damn good to not be copied.
I think it's a masterpiece in every way, shape, and form.

I actually haven't. It's supposed to be good, but it seemed ridiculous to me when I took a look at it, so I decided against watching it. I do have a better idea of what LOGH is from your description, though. I'll try it out after I finish Mirai Nikki.

Ahh... wow, it seems whenever I post that thing comparing Code Geass to LoGH, nobody has seen Code Geass.
Surprising because Code Geass is immensely popular, I'd highly suggest watching it too. It's great and I also rated it a 10/10.
