Really? My impression of R2 is pretty unfavorable, I thought it got progressively worse and totally dropped the ball at the ending.
In my opinion, Lelouch was in the best possible position he could have been in for setting things right with the world and undoing the legacy of his father right after his ascendancy. That point was the prime opportunity to decry his fathers actions as tyrannic and set himself up as a 'savoir of the people' to be loved, revered and obeyed by all.
But instead of taking advantage of the situation he squanders it in order to make what happened in the ending take place, which to me just seemed like the writing staff were more concerned with making the ending all dramatic than with it actually making logical sense or being the best course of action.
