Darn you Key, compromising my manly integrity again. It's your fault I can only read VN's late at night when everyone else has gone to bed *shakes fist at Jun Maeda*.
Yeah, anywho's, just finished yet another of Key's VN's. Planetarian, what a wonderful little story that was, and as you would expect from Key, very sad. This ones a little different from their usual works since its linear, but that really dosent take anything away from the experience.
The story is set on earth in the near future, after the entire planet has been decimated by WWIII. The human population is heavilly depleted, the atmosphere is tainted to the point that acid rain never stops falling, and AI weapons roam the slush that the world has become. In an abandoned city, the nameless protagonist stumbles upon a deserted rooftop planetarium and meets a robot who has continued to wait for customers alone for the past 30 years.
Its the story of their time together, and for all the lack of characters and the fact that almost the whole story takes place in the same location, it was an incredibly gripping read. Couldn't get the patch to work with the voiced version, but I didn't need it. The writing was so well done that it was easy to attribute voice and form to both characters.
So yeah, highly recommended if you like the works of Key, and short enough to read in only a few hours if you don't want to commit to a full length novel. Will probably never happen, but I would love to see a movie of this. Gonna get started on Clannad once I figure out how to get the patch working, hopefully I enjoy Afterstory more in written form. Then after that...I dunno, thats the end of Key VN's with English patches (until Ameterasu finish the Rewrite patch anyways) so ill have to find another one... Any suggestions guys?
