^ I'm telling you man... Just watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes... If you loved Code Geass, LoGH would blow your mind.
I copied this from MAL but this is Code Geass in comparison to LoGH:
Imagine Code Geass without "magical eyes", mechs, ideas like "the one who yells louder wins", immortal women and stupid idealism (hi Suzaku). You with me so far? Now, imagine Code Geass where there are dozens of great commanders like Lelouch on both sides, where political intrigues, plots and schemes are far from uncommon. Imagine battles of epic proportions and war on the galactic scale, where winning side is decided only by commanders intelligence, number of troops, their morale and available resources, not superunits like Lancelot. Do this and you've invented LoGH.
BTW: concept of main hero searching for vengeance against Empire that did bad things to his sister, and exacting this vengeance using military and political means first appeared in LoGH, not CG. Lelouch copied Reinhard in many ways, but I can't say it's a bad thing. LoGH is just too damn good to not be copied.

ahh its on my plan to watch list but the 110 episodes really puts me off ill get round to it eventually i promise! lol

The anime didn't finish the story in entirety (I posted the manga chapters you need to read to finish it a few pages back). My understanding is that production of the anime wasn't stopped due to popularity so much as CLAMP pulling the plug on the project themselves because when the second season strayed into filler territory the studio making it started adding stuff that was taking it away from the true storyline.
The other theory that ive heard is that the series was pulled due to the sudden increase in the amount of violent content. Once it hits the Tokyo Revelations arc things do begin to get a lot darker and bloodier than they had been previously.
