@ Jesse,
Chobits was great I guess, aside from the plot (I mean: some dude falling in love with a robot girl). But as far as I know the majority is like you described. (not counting Code Geass and Elfen Lied as ecchi).
The spring chart's already out and doesn't look that bad. But I don't know if any other people support this idea otherwise it would be useless.
@ Revive,
I don't think any (pre/)sequels or spin offs will do because that means everyone must be familiar with original.

@Ouji desu
I wouldn't really have considered any of those shows to be ecchi. I was more thinking titles like Strike Witches and (Bake/Nise)monogatari, which have fan service aplenty but they dont thrust it in your face and the service still plays second fiddle to the story.
Anyways, its not like we need to have a whole lot of people on board for this to work. 4 would easily be enough, and we'll get other people who are watching whatever we pick jumping in on the conversation anyways. We just need to keep repeating the plan every couple of pages so that everyone knows about it and the suggestion doesn't get lost like all the times we've tried to set up a clanchat (I swear most people dont go back and read the pages that have been added since they last visited).
I just had a look at the new season chart. My main interests next season are the KoreZom sequel and the Saki spin-off series, nothing new really standing out to me as being particularly good (I say that every season though dont I, must be getting cynical in my old age). Which is fine, since that means im more or less happy with whatever title you guys want to go with.

theres this manga(japanese comic book) series i like to read called gamaran. its not an anime but i want to draw attention to it and make it more popular so it can become one.
it takes place in ancient japan, back when there were samurai, martial artists, ninja, and martial artists. the story starts off as two swordsmen are hired by a mysterious young man to destroy a dojo, the home of the practitoners of the ogame school of martial arts. as they walk through the main gates they find a courtyard with many damaged or broken weapons stuck into the ground. a young boy is sitting on a rock holding a wooden practice sword. the two swordsmen ask where the leader of the dojo is. the boy states that the leader has been missing for ten years, and that he would take the two swordsmen challenge in his stead. both men laugh at this, and then one of them attacks him. he is promptly beaten to a pulp by the young boy with a wooden practice sword. the other swordsman asks the boy for his name. the boy replies that his name is gama, son of jinsuke. jinsuke is reputed for killing one thousand martial artists, and is widely known for his strength and skill. the remaining swordsman does not believe this, and proceeds to attack gama. he is beaten before he realizes what happened. The mysterious young man who hired the two swordsmen aproaches, and reveals himself to be the son of the local daimyo, and invites gama to be his vassal and champion in a grand martial arts tournament. gama accepts, stating that it would be good for him to finally get some real combat experience. Gama and the young lord leave for the capital of the area, and the two unconcious swordsmen wake up and beg to be taught the ogame style of fighting.
i hope this sounded interesting and ibeg people to check it out at mangareader.***

@Dynamic
Yeah, you haven't watched too much anime, I actually swear in Japanese more than I do in English.
@Revive
Have they started subbing Sankarea yet? That's actually one of the anime on the top of my list to watch when it comes out.
Edit: @ Jesse
Cool idea (referring to the idea on picking one anime for multiple people to watch and then starting a discussion) I'm up for it.

Just wondering, but, what actually attracted people to anime in the first place?
I'm not sure about myself. I suppose it could be the deep plots in most of them and the lack of most crudely drawn cartoons. Also, not saying anime is childish, but, I suppose it could be the fact that I haven't really well, I will say "Gotton Boring" because most people in western society tend to stop watching cartoons after the age of 14. :|
Also, I KNOW ANIME ISN'T A CARTOON. Just saying.
