Woot! My copy of the first special edition Madoka Magica arrived in the mail today. Theres a small ding in one of the corners of the box, really wish Rightstuf would stop using those tiny cardboard boxes with paper for packing material when they are shipping single items, they would be fine for domestic but when its oversea's mail and in transit for two to three weeks its really not safe enough.
Be nice if they offered EMS, I don't mind the extra price for the extra speed (and therefore a lesser chance of damage). Ah well, dosent matter, im planning on buying the first (or was it second) DVD when Madman releases it here so I can get the hardcase artbox (rather than the flimsy things Aniplex uses), which will mean ill have three copies of volume one lol (The Australian release on DVD, the US release on DVD and BD and the Japanese release on BD).
Since so much redrawing and editing for the home video release i'm watching both the BD and the fansubs at the same time with about 1 second difference, playing spot the difference. The home video version is definitely nicer looking, and has brighter colours, and most of the edits are good, though there are some places I like the TV version more, such as the opening sequence (the sky is whited out in the home video version, where-as it was darkly clouded on the TV version) and Mami's apartment (the TV version is bleaker and less colorful, which I thought more fitting to the shows tone).
There's one spot were the people who were doing the editing screwed up, though I probably wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't looking at the art closely. The bit in the first ep were Madoka has a flashback to the dream sequence in the opening still has the brown clouds of the TV version in it.
