I would recommend Bakemonogatari since the sequel is coming out tomorrow. A personal favorite is Welcome to the NHK!, and if you want something to watch and feel good, watch Hidamari Sketch.

Gintama would be cool to watch although I haven't seen the whole series only 5 episodes.. haven't really been watching much anime lately, I don't like Bleach,Naruto or One Piece. (According to my host student One Piece,Naruto is big in Japan, hence why every Gachapon Machine in the shops/street and those prize winning machines had One Piece/Naruto in them, which annoyed the hell out of me) which annoyed the hell out of me). My friend used to love Bleach now he thinks it's overrated. He also thinks One Piece and Naruto are too.
I've started watching D-Gray Man, ..my friend watches Fairy Tail, Tsubasa and others.
