@Jesse: Hard to say, the second intro isn't bad at all, just not as good as the first one. I didn't like it when I first heard it either, but I started to after hearing it a couple of times.
@Beef Stew: Anger management? For what? No need to resort to personal insults right away. It makes you look pathetic.
I am just trying to help you by telling you to watch something other than mainstream anime. I am not saying all mainstream anime is ****, not at all. It's just that a lot of people tend to get stuck to them and refuse to try other anime that aren't as well known, because they believe that what they are watching is best of the lot.
Anyway, try watching some of these:
Fate/Zero
Fate/Stay Night
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Bakuman
Steins;Gate
Ghost in the Shell
Berserk
Golden Boy
Code Geass
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Serial Experiments Lain
Azumanga Daioh
Haibane Renmei
The Big O
Last Exile
Kino's Travels
Texhnolyza
Planetes
Paranoia Agent
Monster
Samurai Champloo
Mushi-shi
Ergo Proxy
Black Lagoon + OVAs
Kemonozume
Claymore
Dennou Coil
K-ON!
Gurren Lagann
Shigurui
Baccano
Trigun
Real Drive
Baselisk
Kemono no Souja Erin
Welcome to the N.H.K
Katanagatari
FLCL
Read Or Die
Gintama
Hellsing Ultimate
Freedom
Eve no Jikan
Beelzebub
Death Note - It's the kind of anime that turns bad and kind of forced after the first half, I'd say it's probably still worth watching though.
One Piece - Watch/read if you haven't. It's part of the "big three" just like Bleach and Naruto but it's just so much better.

@Yuri
Just saying - That is one of the most alpha lists I've ever seen, nice tastes. Only two things I'd add is Lucky Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya; not really everyone's tastes but I loved them both.
Edit: Also Clannad / After story

@ Yuri,
A list of great anime, let me extend it a bit:
Aria the Animation
Aria the Natural
Aria the Origination } Very beatiful relaxing series, full of pretty women wihtout being ecchi or harem
Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Death Note for adults
Hunter x Hunter (1998?) - nonmainstream shounen, very dark and serious from a certain point. Remake is currently airing, which is also pretty good.
Level E - A bit like Gintama, but only 13 eps and still a bit different. Same Dragon Quest parody =D.
Also,
I wouldn't call Death Note the second half. It's different, but not bad. Near and Mello were some interesting characters and the ending was brilliant.

^^^ Lucky Star is not really good imo. I thought the comedy was pretty unfunny. I laughed maybe 5 times throughout the whole show, it was a pain to even finish it. The funniest anime is either Baka to Test or Seitokai Yakuindomo.

@guy above. I really need to watch LOTGH.... Just 110 episodes seems unappealing. But I WILL watch it sometime.

I wouldn't say Death Note is nearly as good as it is given credit for because a lot of it is predictable because if I was a criminal, it is something I would do. (Would use smiley but hate the current ones)
A far better detective story is Higurashi as it is a lot better than Death Note and makes you think a lot more. Also, When Seagulls Cry is a far better anime than Death Note and offers a bit of mystery behind it.

For me, Lucky Star wasn't really about the comedy, rather just the "Cute-ness", I guess, even though I'm not really one to watch an anime just for that kind of thing (WIth a few exceptions). But I agree, there were not that many moments when I actually "Laughed out loud".

@ Dynamic Hawk,
Death Note isn´t about the detective but about the cat and mouse play between good and evil. Two sides trying to outsmart each other. The DN case is just the base for that.
To be honest, I think Lucky Star and other moe/slice of life shows ruin anime.

Another point of death note is that it says what everyone thinks, that most of the worst criminals on the planet deserve to die, i.e. child *********, murderers, *apists etc...
So, I think it plays on the part of the mind where it shows what people want to see.
