^Not worth watching period IMO. If you've seen one Shounen jump series you've seen them all.
I imagine the majority of us watched DBZ on TV when we were kids/teens, yes? Just replace Goku with a guy with spiky orange hair and the least manly name possible and you have Bleach, substitute Ichigo with a ninja in an orange jump suit and you have Naruto etc etc...

Not a hater, just from what ive seen of them (not much) and heard of them (a fair bit) they tend to follow the same pattern of training, fighting, monologues, fighting, and then a bunch of filler till the mangaka gets his butt in gear and gives them something else to animate.
Its not that I particularly dislike the genre, there are some shounen series (mostly manga) that I like quite a bit. I just always get the impression that the main three shounen titles are very much rehashes of each other (and given the fact that all appear in the same magazine with the same readerbase, is it really that surprising?).

The pattern only applies to Naruto, and a bit to Bleach. Both are executed very differently. Naruto really relies on a story while Bleach has a strong atmosphere. Bleach was even episodic the first 20 episodes. Also, Naruto´s use of the Japanese folklore is very interesting as well.
One Piece is superior and should not be mentioned among those other two.
Not to forget Jump has many other titles like Hunter x Hunter and Gintama that are really doing their own thing.

Noshotskill,

It's get better later on after 200+ episodes. After 400+ episodes the story get very better. After 516+ episodes, you might want to say to yourself: Damn, I want more! Can't wait to see what happen next!
Plus One Piece has awesome openings, OST and was inspired by Dragon Ball, another popular Anime during our childhood.
Stay Gold

Rock On!

That´s because OP´s first episode is practically its worst. It gets better every episode and is nonstop perfect for the last 300 episodes unlike other series *cough* bleach *cough* naruto *cough*
There are multiple reasons why One Piece is the best shounen (Brotherhood excluded) and one of the best anime out there. But I'm too lazy to list them again.
