So many anime series end in cliffhangers. I remember watching the anime based off of akb48. Honestly i think it was underrated. Its like... take the guns to music ratio from macross and swap it around.

SO MANY PLOT POINTS TO CLOSE.

would really like to see some of the older series picked up again =/

I concur. AKB0048 was surprisingly good, especially the second season. A third season would be much appreciated since the whole Center Nova phenomenon was never explained.

or anything else for that matter...

5 Centimeters per Second was actually pretty good though. How did it make no sense? I've never heard anybody say that before. It was heartbreaking.

I only have a problem with the director, Makoto Shinkai. His movies always have the same theme of "lost love." He needs to switch it up a little bit, it's becoming boring and predictable.

The movie made sense, but I didn't like the writing behind it. The first part was fantastically written, the second part wasn't that well written but was a good addition to the story, and the end... it was like they'd run out of ideas so they decided to make the end an AMV. There was no closure in that ending whatsoever. They could've stuck with the "lost love" theme by all means, but for the love of god don't just drop that bomb on us without giving us some build up in the writing to that bomb.

Nice to know I'm the not the only one who doesn't consider Shinkai to be uberfantabulous, though in my case it's typically becasue I find his method of storytelling laborious and, if I may, kinda boring. I've seen a few of his movies either at anime film festivals or just becasue I bought them blind becasue they had a pretty cover, and I've yet to get through one of them without nodding off.

This x1000. The first episode was pretty good. I started to get a little lost in the second episode. I agree that episode 3 was just an AMV. After watching, I was like "Where's the ending?"

I'd really like to see a third season of Sekirei.

Anyways, the next anime movie I'll be watching is Mononoke Hime.

The message of 5 Centimeters per Second is that people need to move on with life. Every part of the story was just fine and I don't understand how you guys don't think there was an ending. The first part shows the protag and this girl falling in love with each other, but as time progresses they slowly start drifting away from one another. The protag can't forget about her and yearns for her throughout the rest of the movie, the next parts represent all the opportunities he has had to forget about her and find a new love. Yet he is stuck and unable to get over her.

By the end, he's wasted all these years hoping to fulfill his love from the past without taking any action. The girl he'd loved since his youth has moved on and married another man. But there he was, still stuck in the past.

The last sequence, where they pass by each other on the train tracks and glance backwards just as the train goes by shows both of their attitudes. He stands there and waits for the train to go by hoping to see her, but she's nowhere to be seen afterwards. She got on with her life and is looking towards the future, unlike the protag who is still dwelling on the past.

hmm on second thought it sounds a bit depressing....ill watch hanbun no tsuki ga noboru sora instead

Lol, Hanbun also has a sad ending. However, it's one of the best short anime I've seen.

Edit: Well, the ending is sad, but also happy at the same time. It's hard to explain.

I got a little curious after reading all the comments about 5 Centimeters per Second in here, so I gave it a go myself. And I have to say that I am thankful to all of you for bringing this gem up, because I thought it was absolutly superb. It would have been nice if they shown us a glimpse of the future of that surfing girl aswell about how she moved on in her life, but leaving that up to our own imaginations is totally fine with me aswell.

By the way are there any worthwhile shows this season? I didnt really bother checking any of them out this time.

I think I'll re-watch 5CPS someday and maybe then I'll not get too confused towards the end. That will be down the road, however. Unfortunately, I've been watching anime from different time periods, so I couldn't tell you about the very new ones.
