^wise choice i loved both seasons of it and the story just keeps getting better and better.
@Luffy Kun 2 mhmm i did*´t find Hidan no Aria that good, the idea was awesome but there´s a lack og explanations in almost everything which is proved once
SPOILER ALERT&%$%$
Vlad is actually the academy headmaster or one of the teacher (never explained it) with 2 personalitys that becomes a giant werewolf and must be shot in 5 spots at the same time in order to get killed.

Now could the Teacher control him? why did Vlad emerge all of a sudden, did he have any control of Vlad? Vlad let the teacher control him? What´s up with the Histeria Mode of Kinji why does he have it? Why doesn´t Aria show any supoerpower other than her awesome fighting skills? What are the requirements to become an * class student? Awesome Wolfs comming out of nowhere...I loved them..so nothing to critizise there.
Why did they blame Aria´s mother for all Vlad crimes? Are powers supposed to come from blood lineages? Why no one said Vlad was an effin werewolf/monster??? The last 2 chapters don´t give a good enough explanation of why Vlad did*´t consider Lupin the fourth as a good DNA fountain if she had those powers....well i hope there´s a second season that explains it all... =P

You forgot to mention how its not possible to take a bullet to the chest at point blank range and be able to walk around perfectly healthy not long after. Even if those uniforms are made of Kevlar, thats not possible :P
But seriously, alot of the things you commented on were somewhat explained in passing, you might have just missed them because they dont dwell on the subject for to long, or just weren't really important so they didn't need to explain it.
With the Vlad/teacher guy (and he is a teacher, they mention that in passing in the first episode), i got the impression that they were in a sort of master/servant symbiosis, with Vlad as the master. Thats pretty much vampire 101 (dunno about vampiric werewolves though...)
Again in the first episode, Kinji explains that Hysteria Mode is an inherited genetic trait, and given that fact we can suppose that other powers are, or can be, passed down genetically as well. Whether this rule applies to Riko as well isn't clear, but its safe to assume so.
I suspect that Aria's family power is, seeing as she's a descendant of Holmes and all, relate to mental abilities and powers of deduction. Of course, as Aria herself notes at one point, she missed out on this trait.
I assume that censored single letter is an S? Thats pretty self explanatory, its just a grade. Aria mentions at one point that although Kinji is rank E, he was rank S on entry exams and only fell due to not being able to take some test or other.
The thing with Aria's mother seems to be a means to coerce Aria into joining the 'EU' (whatever that is), My impression is that Vlad isn't a werewolf thing all the time, thats just something he can do cuz he's a freak, and with Riko its because she quite evidently sucks as a thief (reference episode 12).
All pretty straightforward really, the advantage of re watching things, but they started a plot point pretty late into the series without explanation (who is Kana?), so a second season seems likley.

Well, personally I like Higurashi better. The fact that theres a decent mystery to actually solve yourself rather than just watching others solve the mystery is a big plus. That, along with the degree of violence in the story, allow for a lot more emotional high points from the viewer. The multi-arc nature of the mystery also helps by not only being rather compelling but allowing the story to shift gears between light and dark, getting the best of both.
From an analytic perspective though, while the mystery in higurashi is well told and more interesting, ide say that Death Note has an overall better mystery structure. This is due simply to the duality of the central Higurashi mystery. There are times were Higurashi relies on coincidence, and thats something you shouldn't do in a mystery.
Still, as they say a few times in Umineko, this was never an orthodox mystery to begin with. But I liked both of them alot, so its a tough call.

Does anyone recall an announcement that Aniplex were going to be releasing OreImo in the US? I dont remember seeing it, maybe I missed it, and I cant get onto ANN to check at the mo since it seems to be down for some reason. Anyways, I was just browsing around on my favorite anime shopping website and I noticed that rather than translating the title, they are actually releasing it as 'Oreimo'.
Dunno why but i found the fact that funny.

Yep I find that funny too lol. I'd figure that due to cultural differences, that the US and elsewhere aren't as "accepting" to a slightly 1ncest-suggesting title.
Again, it's just my opinion O_o

Anyone have any comments about the new game that came out Catherine?
While I don't have the game yet, I saw the trailers and some videos and I gotta say it looks Anime style.
That game might work for me. I'm going to get it someday.
:)

Yeah, a lot of people seemed to have missed some of the explanations as they were done in passing.
To attempt to answer your question about inheriting powers, I would say that most powers are inherited however that doesn't rule out the possibility of gaining those powers through other means (at least I don't recall anything disclaiming that theory).
Also, in the case of Aria's mother (800+ years?! Roflmao), they explained in passing that she was framed for the crimes that she's accused of. My guess is Vlad did some killing, stealing, ect. and was able to frame Aria's mom in some way. Riko and Durandal, I expect, did the same. As Jesse said, this is probably part of a whole big plan to get Aria to join the EU (which maybe means European Union? Europe United? Ecchi Us? Who knows....?)
As for the plot point of Kana, or anything else that's been left unexplained, I think it's safe to assume it'll be explained in more depth in the next season, as Jesse said before me.
And I eagerly await the next season to see if these questions will be explored more. That and, call me crazy, I just love this anime, it's become my number 1. (Though, tbh, I haven't watched as much anime as others here so my opinion may not matter to you guys.)
On a semi-related note:
Now that I've finish Hidan no Aria's anime, I hope to begin Infinite Stratos very soon. That and read the light novels for Hidan no Aria (I'm not very patient when waiting for more seasons of a good show.)
