What you see in the latter half of episode 5 occurs on a 'higher plain' to the world in which Shannon was killed. Best get used to the idea, since there can be several differing plains of existence in effect at any one time. You'll understand what i mean relatively soon.
And, as you would of course have learned from Higurashi, people in ryukishi07's stories generally dont stay dead for very long. The big difference between how it was in Higurashi and how it is in Umineko is that your given the reasoning behind it pretty much straight away.
The other big difference, which ill let you know so you can think accordingly, is which aspects of a mystery that Umineko focuses on. There are 3 aspects to any mystery;
-Whodunit (Culprit)
-Howdunit (Method)
-Whydunit (Motive)
Higurashi focused more on the who and why, while the how generally took a back seat (they were bashed in the face with a baseball bat, whats so hard to understand). In Umineko, How and Why are the major aspects, with who being less important.
PS- Have you spotted any characters from Higurashi yet? Not counting on the TV's. On the subject of the TV's, if your wondering why you never saw those parts in Higurashi, its becasue those bits are from the little 2 minute mini-video's that were extra's for the Japanese Higurashi Kai DVD's.
