Try the Chaos;Head VN, I only got up to a few parts in it though and I liked what I read. It's somewhat about delusions and weird powers. You should also try the Umineko No Naku Koro Ni VN's, it's a murder mystery.
Oh, visual novels eh.
As for the above ones, I've pretty much played the whole way through Chaos;Head, and for the most part i like it. The one bit i didn't like is that it has a detective who isn't the main character, which means he can make deductions and theories and test them without letting the player know how he arrives at the conclusion. Its my most hated type of story-telling cop-out (pun unintended)
, No H.
All of Ryukishi07's works are really good (thats Umineko and Higurashi's author, if you dont know who he is). Both are supernatural murder mysteries played out with a groundhog day loop, with the idea being to solve the mystery yourself as you read. Genius works. No H.
A group called "witch hunt" are doing an endorsed translation for Umineko, while English versions for higurashi have to be bought from a company called manga gamer. Umineko and higurashi are linear though (no decisions to make), so the game is to solve the mystery.
As for other recommendations that have translations, i couldn't recommend the works of KEY (and Jun Maeda) highly enough. I know that there are full working patches for both Kanon and Clannad, but i dont think Air's was ever finished. (Available in all ages or H versions. I know the Kanon patch works with either).
For the KEY works that where never made into an anime, there is a partial patch (5/8 routes completed) for Little Busters, which i have been playing recently and really enjoyed. The patch only works with the original LB game (the all ages one), wont work with LB ecstasy (The extended H-version) or the memorial edition (extended non-H version).
Finally for KEY works, i hear that Planeterian is good (and has a full patch), ive never played it though.

Finally, the last one i would recommend (based on what ive seen so far) is 'sharin no kuni himawari no shoujo'. I really like this one because it has an interesting personality for the protagonist, and for the world its set in and its unusual take on the concept of the judicial system and a persons human rights. I tried to keep my academic background separate from my hobbies, i failed
(I think this one contains (H). im not up that far yet though)
Theres others i could recommend as well if you dont mind playing them using a text hook(er) and deciphering online translator type translations.
If your new to VN's you may not know about this. AGTH (anime games text hook(er)) is a program that you run parallel to an untranslated visual novel by running it with the games exe.
It pulls the japanese characters that appear on the game screen, automatically sends it to a bunch of online translators, and feeds the results back to you so you get anywhere between 4 and 10 different translations.
Its kind of annoying to use and it makes it hard to get the full idea of the story, but at least you can still get the general gist of whats going on.
EDIT: Oh,nearly forgot. School days
. Up to chapter 3 is finished. Reason i would recommend this one, aside from the gory endings, is the game play is a different take on the usual VN. Rather than click to read, the whole thing is one long video ( it felt like watching the anime again. No wonder its 8 gigs) and when your asked to make a decision, you have to make it quickly or the game chooses for you.
Also, its interesting for the protagonist. I was reading a blog post today about how he is probably one of the most realistic harem leads ever, which is ironic because thats why everyone hates him

Yea, the first "chanting" of Umineko's OP is italian, then I believe the rest is in Japanese. It was absolutely amazing and the lyrics amazed me even more. A lot of people complained about series not following the VN directly (or having a poor adaption of it.) I enjoyed how it gave me a mind f-, the paradox theories... Were amazing and enjoyable.
If you enjoy Chaos:Head, then you might want to try out Steins;Gate. It takes place in the same area but is a year after with new characters. It's about a microwave time machine
