^ I'm not a huge fan of shounen anymore. It just seems over rated, I still do read Naruto/Bleach manga though. I'm more of a seinen fan, manga targeted at age 18-30 male audiences. It is usually composed of complex plots.
Regarding the post about AIR a few posts back. I would say it's sad in a way, but not really. KEY (the company) always make you have tear-jerking moments in their animes, (most notably, CLANNAD and Angel Beats!) I have watched a few bits of the TV series of AIR, but I would say the movie is better. It's more focused on Yukito and Misuzu. It made me cry, and feel a bit sad. However, there are even more "sad" animes out there.
A lot of anime are going to end within the next week. But about 3 or so titles begin airing on the first week of January if I remember correctly. I think I might as well give all the Winter anime a try, since I have so much free time. And I can't wait for FUNIMATION to upload Chaos;Head on YT, I'm going to have fun enjoying the psychological attacks it'll give me.

I'm currently watching one anime series every 2 weeks roughly, sometimes in one week depending on how tired i am that week (DSPS ftw.)
So like I said earlier i finished watching AIR last night. Probably going to watch the movie tonight and tomorrow night, and i'll probably move onto Clannad or something next week. But so far, despite what everyone has said, Elfen Lied is the only anime i've watched so far that has *slightly* depressed me; I didn't really find AIR that sad, unlike what people have told me about it.
So confirmaton needed, Clannad next, or some other random anime that i come across?
Thanks. ^_^

Give Clannad a try, and if you don't like it, try other animes. I use YouTube and I often stumble across interesting animes. This creates a problem for me though, considering the huge list of animes I want to watch, but I put a lot of the animes I watch on hold unless they really intrigue me.
What I consider "sad" animes are ones that are depressing. And of course, depressing to me means tragedies. I know a lot of depressing animes (more depressing then Elfen Lied imo), and if you want, give these a try:
School Days - Not technically depressing, but the events in the anime can twist your soul, and emotionally wreck you. With the 'bad end' of course, you'll probably want to rip yourself apart after watching it.
Bokurano - It has many many sad themes such as child abuse, sadistic choices, dilemmas and double binds. It basically shows humanity at it's worst and it's best. The character development is done nicely with a huge cast of characters. I was emotionally wrecked when I saw the "bad sides" of humanity. This anime is a tragedy which makes it "depressing."
Aoi Bunganku - This is a 12 episode anime base on 6 of Japan's classical novels (No Longer Human, Kororo, and 4 more.) I have not watched it, but base of reviews and synospsis of the books, "No Longer Human" is probably the most depressing. It's about alienation towards society and questions what "humanity" is.
In short, I enjoy animes that give you a good soul twisting, mind rping experience with a heart full of pain at the end, haha.

I also recommend School Days. Although it isn't nearly as sad or twisted as Elfen Lied IMO, it was still entertaining to watch.
On another note, I finished the first season of Sekirei and I liked it. Its like pokemon but with hot chicks. I recommend it to anyone who likes harem anime like Girls Bravo or RosaVam.

XD seems very depressing.
I'm more a fan of comedy/slice of life stuff(Lucky Star, K-on, watching Oreimo this season) and shonen action stuff (not Naruto or Bleach, those lost my interest a long time ago, I liked Soul Eater, Darker than Black, watching the second season of Toaru Majutsu No Index this season).
As to what shows that caught my eye on first seeing the winter 2011 list: Beelzebub, Gosick, and Yumekui Merry, but I'll probably check out more. Hmm I don't really know where I was headed with this, but ahwell XD.
