It sure is a polarizing series though, such ardent hatred some people have..... sheesh. Out of 1,943 entries on MAL I've rated 8 things a 10/10 with NGE and EoE being 2 of them. So you could say I'm a passionate fan.

2 of the 3 points I made were not opinion based. The makers of the show literally said they used imagery like Crucifixion and added all those trippy dream scenes because they "looked cool". The makers of the show admitted to doing stuff with no meaning and while that wouldn't be a huge deal on its own the problem is... THEY USED IT FOR THE FUCKING ENDING OF THE SHOW! I still have no clue to this day wtf is going on but it is a real "The Emperor's New Clothes" situation where people are just like "it's artistic so it's good".

And you can't deny that every single time (except once) when the squad is deployed THE VERY FIRST THING ONE OF THEM DOES IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY WERE ORDERED! It is so fucking frustrating it makes me want to put my fist through a wall. And no one ever does anything about it.

These are not opinions, they are real, terrible, flaws. The one thing that I said which was an opinion is that Shinji is a terrible fucking character and that you shouldn't make unwatchable characters the focus of your show. And if you care to test the waters of the internet it would appear that Shinji is indeed hated by the vast majority of people. While what I said for this point may be opinionated it is the statistically prevalent opinion by miles.

If they had a decent mc and ending and acted anything like a military unit then it would have been amazing.

Have you seen NGE Raleirosen? In its entirety or at least partly? Yep, entirety (a while ago, though). I think you're referring to how it's deconstructive, but that wouldn't change its genre unless there's some other factor I'm forgetting. Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.
