What are you talking about? NGE is trash tier.
Nge was unwatchable to me for 3 major reasons:
1) The main character. Most of the show depicts events from Shinji's point of view and if your main character is autistic Joffrey then clearly the show is going to be unbearable if the main focus is the action of someone whose existence is like nails on a chalkboard. He randomly alternates between being scared shitless to get in an Ava and rushing in to immediately almost die directly disobeying orders and the entire time he creates countless easily avoidable problems because he is literally autistic and can't just fucking interact with people. And if you are the world's only hope and don't want to die then fear should motivate you to fight for survival not to run away and wait for certain death, instead he's busy committing literal sex crimes on sleeping women.
2) The show is about a military unit and literally every fucking time there is a problem the military unit IMMEDIATELY disobeys orders and someone gets captured/almost dies. AND IT IS NEVER ADDRESSED! If you are in any kind of military, let alone an elite last line of defense, you can bet your fucking ass that no one is just going to forget about the 1st time (let alone the 7th time) you disobey direct orders.
3) They literally said they put all the Crucifixion imagery and stuff like that in the show because it "looked cool". So not only does the show have some trippy fucking non-ending that makes 0 sense they also added smoke screens to add extra layers of meaningless confusion.
FUCK NGE. I give it a 6/10 (bonus points because it had amazing graphics for its time)

I have to confess I found it pretty hard to watch NGE too, not sure why. But if I got to punch the main character in the face, I would do it and walk off looking like this.
So your dad is shit. So you're emo. So you're in an age nearing the apocalypse. Do you know what that mechanical thing is up there? The one you can climb into and sit in, siccing gigantic blades from its arms and shooting lasers and looking a bit like a Power Rangers fantasy? That's a super weapon devised by humans (which happen to be your species) to protect themselves (and you and everyone you know and care for) from said apocalypse. You will be aiding that defence personally, and if the world's going to end anyway, just get in the robot and have fun anyway. It's giant robots versus giant aliens. You're going to die anyway. At least have fun.
Come on, it's every male being's dream come true. GET IN THE FUCKING ROBOT.
But anyway, Monster is a good psychological anime I recommend for the villain, the storyline and an array of actually interesting characters that can actually be related to. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!
