Was digging through my you-tube history for something I'd watched a while back when I stumbled across this video.

I mean, I have no issues with giving a show a bad rating, you're reviewing it after all, and it's a reviewers perogative. I don't have with to agree with it, but it doesn't mean you aren't allowed to do it. But at least get your freaking facts straight. Otherwise you're just doing a disservice to your viewers.

Sounds awful Icy. Can't say I have any qualms with Animazement. It's certainly gotten bigger as the years have gone by, but there's still ample amounts of space to move around aside from the dealers room, which can get tight. I can also get my badge in less than 5 minutes, there's really no line if you pre-register. We also pull in some great Japanese guests. And whew, leaving at 4:45 in the morning? Props for that.

So I take it you're only going for 1 day? Isn't it multiple days? I'd look into myself but I'm too drunk enough to care and about to head to bed. Though with your travel time I guess that wouldn't be fun to go multiple days, unless you stayed in a hotel.

Yeah, it's 4 days but I bought my pass late as a "fuck it, I have Monday off and don't have any plans for the 4th" kinda thing. Otherwise I'd take the train from SD and stay in a hotel instead of driving.

Panels were reputedly neigh impossible to get into this year without a $400 premier pass which allows priority entry. Around 6:00 I was looking for the Kuromukuro line and saw several hundred people lined up outside for what later turned out to be the Yui Horie panel when some dude on the upper level shouted "50! Five-Zero!", the new line cap, which got pared down further. So because the volunteers didn't keep a line count and were apparently too lazy to walk up the stairs and figure out how many people with premier passes were queued inside, a few hundred people waited in the sun for 3 hours only to be denied entry.

Another peeve was that rooms used exclusively for screenings didn't interleave rows of chairs, so instead of looking through a gap between the people in front of you you're staring at the back of someone's head. Fortunately the people seated in front of me were pretty short.

Oh, Icy. Just curious, but did you come across Love in Space's booth by chance?

I did a complete walkthrough twice so I must've seen it, but it probably struck me as unfamiliar and unremarkable so I couldn't tell you anything about it.

Ah, okay. Well, Samu-kun would've had it themed around Shining Song Starnova I'm sure as that's their current project. Beta 0.4 was only released to paetreon backers last month.

I was just curious what all they had on display.

Another issue was lack of seating/benches to rest on, there were maybe 100-200 spaces, predominantly in the convention center's cafe area, and you're on your feet the entire day. Paid staffers would bitch if they caught you sitting; after an hour waiting for the exposition hall to open most people had sat down but they made everyone get back up so they could cram more people inside. People sat around columns in the south lobby, the entire bottom level leading to the artist gallery turned into a shanty town, the upper level (where I sat, near screening rooms and looking down on the lobby) was fringed with people resting, and the edges of the exposition hall were carpeted with the weary. Ironically, the only signs posted by AX were right by people seated in the exposition hall, warning that doing so was a fire hazard.

Around 2:30 or so moving around became really cumbersome, I'm sure AX would be shut down if a fire marshal witnessed peak attendance. In retrospect it's kind of funny they "screen" for weapons using a metal detector that didn't notice my keys or phone when dozens, if not hundreds, would die if a fire broke out in the expo hall.

sounds like you're getting what you pay for

AX has 100k+ attendees and it's apparent to me even on the third day that without a management overhaul and better planning the convention is unsustainably chaotic and crowded.
