If a boot to the lock counts as locksmithing. Kicking doors is my hobby.

But no, Key is the visual novel company that wrote Clannad, Kanon, Air and Little Busters. They also wrote and did the character designs for Angel Beats as an original anime project. I'm a fan of theirs.

visual novels aren't really popular outside of East Asia, not sure about light novels though...
either way talking about visual novels in this thread is kind of "niche" so to speak...

Not really. Anime, manga, visual novels and light novel's are all part of the same collective media group since anime and manga are based on the other two so often. It's pretty typical for anime fans to consume all of these types of media and I know for a fact that several people here have played them, even if they don't do so regularly.

As for Key, they are a pretty well known name even to people who don't play VN's on account of the acclaim that their anime adaptations (the ones I listed above) have among the general fandom. Indeed, they are probably more well known for the anime than they are for the games themselves. Wouldn't be surprised if your the only person here who didn't know the name, especially because it's not exactly unknown around these parts (search this thread, you'll find the word Key at least a few hundred times).

@Icy: Don't mislead people, you know exactly what I'm talking about lol.

Pretty much. The official side of that is still slowly developing. Picked up the English release of Steins;Gate on Saturday, very good.

As for the AB VN, I'm not sure exactly where that project is at the moment. The website for it is up and a few preliminary CG's have been released, so it's definitely progressing. Nothing firm as far as dates go though, the first part (it's broken into a series of games for some reason) was due to be released some times this year originally, but they announced that they were pushing the release back to next year, and after that I haven't heard anything more about it.
