@Raikenzera
Yeah, that's pretty much why I said that Madoka had to be a girl. I figured that people would be far less sympathetic to and more judgmental of an indecisive male protagonist than they would a female one. But the idea of Gendo trying to force Shinji into a magical girl outfit made me laugh.
My problem with the character change was less that it didn't sit with the established characterization and more that it was a sudden turn counter to previous statement or implication, and was not really foreshadowed in any manner that would be left to click later. Leaving aside the epilogue, in the main TV series she seemed stable and accepting of events, and nothing in the movie up to the big reveal really did anything to establish that mindset as having changed. Then all of a sudden, down come the walls and BAM!
But I'm legitimately interested to know your reason, since I haven't had the chance to discuss the film with anyone yet.
@EVERYONE:
Anyone mind if we post spoilers and discuss the series/movies openly? Traptastic, you finished the third movie yet? I've been avoiding spoilers for now because I didn't want to ruin it for you.
