Dear God! We don't need another skill like Fletching, Crafting, Smithing, et al…
Besides, we already have butchering in the game. Jagex just leaves out the bothersome steps of us having to skin and carve the carcass by having the meat, bones, and pelts nicely stacked on the ground for us.
Please do not make cooking harder by adding extra steps to the process. It's annoying enough having to tan hides for the Crafting Skill.
Therefore, if Jagex is going to come up with a new skill, at the very least please let it be unique and useful, not redundant and annoying.
Now, if you want to talk about adding butchering to the cooking skill where butchering adds a phenominal amount of exp, then we can find common ground =D As long as it is extra activity and not forced into the process we already have ^_^

Hello there Count,
Our opinions differ here greatly. First off it seems to me that skills releases are getting fewer and farther between and the latest is a stretch to even call it a skill. Jagex once stated that they considered releasing Dungeoneering as a stand alone game rather than part of Runescape at all.
I want to see more skills , not less. And it also seems to me that Jagex is running out of viable ideas for skills.
Several of our past skills could have just been additions to existing skills like summoning as an add on to magic and hunter an addition to slayer.
By breaking down these skills into separate components we have many more possibilities for future skills.
We also disagree on the part of making things in Runescape "harder". I want things to be harder. I want greater challenges in the game and I have never minded the work (or grind) necessary to achieve high levels in repetitive skills.
The focus with Jagex in recent months seems to be entirely on making the game easier. All our skill updates are about faster xp. Ivy and the LRC have changed WC and Mining forever making these 99's some of the most common in the game. Effigies and assisting are about easy xp, how about signing up a friend (or a bot) and get bonus xp.
So what is a new useful skill? Isn't every skill in the game redundant?
I like the idea of actually doing something with my kills other than just picking up the perfect pieces.
In real life a great butcher does require great skills that are learned over time.
Butchers are definitely not cooks and cooks are not good butchers. Just the facts.
So what should a skill in Runescape be?

Scavlord,
There’s no need for sour grapes. I said I have no problem with this being an "extra" activity. A mini-game as part of a quest would be nice for cooking. I simply do not see this idea as being necessary to enhance Cooking by inserting it unconditionally into the process; neither do I see Butchering as a skill.
Sure, some food items are quite interesting to make: pies and stews for instance. However, our main food product —FISH— does not need to be made harder to cook by forcing us to Gut & Scale the fish before we can cook them. Same goes for Skinning & Dressing red and white meat.

Hello CP,
First off please accept my sincere statement that my comments should not be taken as a sour response. I always enjoy a constructive discussion. We disagree and that is all part of a good friendly discourse.
As I have previously stated I feel the cooking skill is the most diverse in the entire game and Jagex spending additional time on a cooking add-on is a waste of time. So I too don't see this as a requirement to enhance cooking. As I have also stated I don't think anything that presently drops any form of "meat" should be changed and I don't personally remember ever mentioning fish. So the statement "FISH— does not need to be made harder to cook by forcing us to Gut & Scale the fish before we can cook them" doesn't apply here whatsoever.
The idea here is that creatures that presently don't drop any form of meat could then drop a carcass that could be processed by a butchery skill. These dropped and butchered meats COULD be used by cooks but there is absolutely no new requirement to do so. This could add an additional benefit for hunters and slayers as well as a bonus for those folks that just like to kill stuff and would like a new twist in addition to the same old drop.
As I very accurately predicted in another thread of mine the game of Runescape is quickly losing any integrity by allowing itself to become overrun by botting players. I'm quickly losing interest but feel if Jagex has no plans to rid the game of these accounts they should spend time and resources on additional content. The addition of new skills have always been a huge draw to the game and again, for me, the more the merrier.

So would all dragonhides for example have to be skinned from a carcass?
In any case I think this is an amazing idea for a new skill. I think that EVERYTHING should have to be skinned in order to get the meat from it (example: you kill a chicken and it drops a chicken carcase, you use your knife on it and then you get the meat, feathers and bones).
The reason I want this too happen is that it will make cooking more challenging by making it harder to get the food.

CP chill! on other matters, I don't understand it, i go from page 3 to almost the last one and people still don't get this skill. Lets me explain. YOU CAN STILL COOK FISH PLAIN. AND, THIS IS NOT A COOKING ADD-ON!!!! :@ .
1.kill monster & take meat/catch fish
2.IF DESIRED take meat and prepare
3.IF DESIRED season meat
4 Cook meat.
This can't be a cooking add on, it adds a whole new dimension to meat for people who don't wan'* to spend three days at Catherby catching fish, then spend another day cooking them all just to get food. This gives new food, new benefits, and a new skill. Dung WAS NOT a skill. It's a minigame that mashes together all the skills in the game in a haphazard and awkward way.
I also have a suggestion. Instead of a carcass you get the meat which is still able to be cooked like that with the Cooking skill. Or you could take some tool of butchery and prepare it. EXAMPLE you kill a cow and get some raw beef. You can cook the beef to make a generic steak or, depending on your butchery lvl, you could take it to a butcher table(in cooking areas or in POH) and get a certain cut of the meat, each harder to cut meat gives you more health. You can then take the meat, crush an herb with pest and mort and put it on, or take spices and add it. Herbs give you boosts while spices give Xtra healing. You then take your prepared meat and cook it creating something like a "New York Strip with crushed Tarromin and Gnome Spice. You could also add salt to make it storeable in a larder, or even better a basement fridge, in your POH, if you don't salt it rots faster, making it unusable. Hope you take my suggestions into account, and Jagex, PLEASE MAKE THIS A SKIIILLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

This is a good idea, but there's an even better one here.
QFC: 185-186-114-63011710
The entire thread is about improving Firemaking and turning it into a skill called Survival, which has a lot more to do with than just making fires. I think this 'Butchering' skill would better fit into here than as an entirely new skill on its own. It's a good idea, though. I like it.
