I Personally Think That It Could Be A Viable Skill With Enough Popularity. It Does Not Necessarily Have To Change The Drop System For The Meat As Mod Crow Stated Above. You Could Use Some Kind Special Technique Or Weapon To Kill Said Enemy To Try To Preserve The Meat Without Destroying It. Of Course You Would Have To Have Certain Combat Levels To Kill The Enemies And Use Butcher's Equipment. I Also Think That It Fits In With Runescape's Medieval Theme.

The Difference Between Cutting Meat For Regular Cooking And Butchering Is You Are Trying To Dodge All Of The Unsavory Parts Of The Animal In The Latter Skill Which Is An Art Mind You After All You Don't See Housewives Stringing Up A Cow To Get Sides Of Beef And Blow Fish Can Only Be Cut Certain Way To Keep The Poison From Contaminating The Meat. You Really Don't Have To Show Everything That Happens Seeing As How Butchering Can Get Rather Messy.

You Could Also Tie It In To Slayer And Hunting. Slayer For The Different Types Of Meat And Hunter For The Trapping Technique. I Think That It Could Also Increase The Various Number Of Foods By Cutting Them Differently After The Technique To Trap Or Kill Them. You Could Also Just Do It The Way You Do Now Should You Choose Not To Train Butchering By Putting Down The Animal As You Do Now. It Is Just As In Fleching And Smithing Are Not 100% Necessary For Ranged. It Could Also Have Possible Applications In The Farming Ability To Grow Your Own Herbs And Spices To Season Your Meat Which Would Be Grouped Into Cooking.

Thanks Golbez for the support. Having been intimately involved with both the cooking and butchery industry in real life, I know these to be very different skills and/or professions. And as time goes by in the Runescape world and I see fewer and fewer new skills coming along I just like to keep the ideas coming.

Personally I don't think it is a bad idea and i'm not sure how I can suggest improvements but it's maybe a good idea to make the name sound less off putting.
-"I'm gonna butcher all these cows when I get them"
-"I love butchering!"
You could find the French word for butcher, words always sound better in French. :D

Well gimmealollie,
The French word for Butcher is Boucher, kinda sounds like boooshay. Not much better. Unfortunately there isn't a better word for butcher that I can think of.
Plain and simple, a butcher takes something that someone else has killed and turns it into something someone else can cook.
